Fall into October at the ‘Cummer Museum’ of Art and Gardens



School has begun and it’s time to reward yourself, and your little students, with a trip to the Cummer Museum.  Get your calendars out and make plans for a fun-filled, educational time.

Weaver First Saturday ‘Free for All’ - Sat., Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Free and No registration required! The first Saturday of each month at the Cummer Museum is FREE FOR ALL, thanks to the generous support of Delores Barr Weaver and J. Wayne Weaver.  Guests can enjoy free admission, as well as art-making activities for all ages in the Cummer Gardens, live music, and a Docent-led tour at 2 p.m.

Envirofest – Sat., Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Free.  No registration required.  Join the Museum, in partnership with the City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board, for the third annual Envirofest.  This is a family-friendly event centered on raising environmental awareness through the arts, education, and music.  Enjoy book readings, live music, recycled art projects, tours, and much more!

Bank of America and Merrill Lynch Museums on Us – Sun., Oct. 2 from 12 to 4 p.m. | Free to cardholders.  No registration required.  The Cummer Museum offers free admission on the first Sunday of the first full weekend of the month to all Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholders through the Museums on Us program.  Each cardholder receives one free general admission to the Museum.

Ponce De León Society Opening Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art – Wed., Oct. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. | Free for Ponce de León Society Donors only!  The Board of Trustees and the Director of the Museum invite you to be their guest at the private viewing of Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art, with remarks from Director Hope McMath. Please join us for a reception with live music, cocktails, and small bites.

Member Preview Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art – Thurs., Oct. 6 from Noon to 4 p.m. | Free for Members Only!  No registration required.  Members of the Cummer Museum are invited to view the exhibition before it opens to the public.  Enjoy Docent-led tours every hour and a 20% discount in the Cummer Shop and Café.  Reservations for the Cummer Café are highly recommended.

Community Opening Party Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art – Thurs., Oct. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. | Members Free, Non-Members $10.  Join the Museum for the opening celebration of an exhibition that explores the relationship between inspiration and creation in Folk Couture: Fashion and Folk Art. Get a sneak peek at the exhibition before it opens to the public, with small bites, beer, and wine while listening to live music and remarks from Chief Curator Holly Keris at 6:30 p.m.

Art for Two: Abstract Painting! – Sat., Oct. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon | Members $15 per pair, Non-Members $20 per pair.  Ages 3 through 5 with an adult.  While viewing abstract art in the Galleries, students will learn about color theory and mixing, then create a monochromatic painting using lines and shapes.

Women Artists: From The Renaissance to Abstract Expressionism – Tues., Oct. 11 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. | Members Free, Non-Members $10 (includes admission).  This series continues with the 18th century, when three women achieved a degree of fame, wealth, and adulation that was unparalleled – Rosolba Carriera, Angelica Kauffman, and Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun (who was the subject of a major retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art).

Art Adventures: Florida Landscapes! – Sat., Oct. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Members $10, Non-Members $15.  Ages 6 through 12.  In this session, students will view and discuss several works from the Collection depicting the landscape of Florida, then work in the Gardens to create their own paintings through direct observation


History of Western Art Early Christian To High Renaissance Art – Tues., October 18 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon | Members Free, Non-Members $10 (includes admission).  Explore art history through this monthly series of lectures that includes time in the Galleries. If you want to brush up on your art history for personal enjoyment, then join Director of Education Lynn Norris as she leads you through the history of Western Art.

Cummer Amelia: Kickoff – Thurs., Oct. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. | Members Free, Non-Members $15 at the Amelia Island Museum of History.  Join Cummer Amelia for their annual kickoff event at Amelia Island Museum of History. Enjoy cocktails and a discussion with Museum Director Hope McMath on the Life of an Object.

Lunching with The Ritz: A Lunchtime Chamber Concert – Wed., Oct. 19 from 12:30 p.m. | Free with Museum Admission.  Make your lunch hour more enjoyable with a concert from the Ritz Chamber Players. Pre-order a box lunch from the Cummer Café (for an additional fee) and enjoy a special performance inspired by LIFT.

Talks and Tea: Lift – Thurs., Oct. 20 from 1:30 | Members and Non-Members $6.  Join a selection of LIFT artists for an intimate discussion around the exhibition. Enjoy a sweet treat and a cup of tea while you listen to the talk.

Thank you Ms. V for informing us about what's going on in Jacksonville. I complain a lot about how boring this city is. I will definitely be at the Cummer on Oct 1
