Cool Cummer in the HOT Springtime

Can you believe that it’s still Springtime? Well, even though it may be 90-100º outside, inside the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is cool, comfortable, entertaining and informative.  Remember that school will soon be out and this is a wonderful place for you and the kids to enjoy it here in Jacksonville, Florida.  Take a look at the calendar below and make your Cummer dates for June, 2019.

Florida Blue Free Tuesday - Each Tuesday Evening from 4 to 9 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Every Tuesday, enjoy free admission to the Cummer Museum and its historic gardens, thanks to the generous support of Florida Blue. Guests can enjoy free admission to the galleries. Each Tuesday evening, the Cummer Café is open for Tapas.

Tapas Tuesday -
Every Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Cummer Café patio, take in the sunset while listening to local musicians with beer, wine, or artfully inspired tapas for sale at the Café.  Reservations are recommended.  Reserve your table by calling 904.899.6022.

Weaver First Saturday Free for All
- Sat, Jun 1 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  The first Saturday of each month at the Cummer Museum is FREE FOR ALL, thanks to the generous support of J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver. Guests can enjoy free admission, as well as art-making activities for all ages in the Cummer Gardens, live music, and a Docent-led tour at 2 p.m. For further information, please call 904.899.6038.

Bank Of America And Merrill Lynch Museums On Us - Sun, Jun 2 | Noon to 4 p.m. | Free to Cardholders | No registration required.  The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens offers free admission on the first Sunday of the first full weekend of the month to all Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholders through the Museums on Us program.  Each cardholder receives one free general admission to the Museum. Summer Camp at The Cummer Museum - Members $200, Non-Members $230 | Students entering grades 1 through 6.  Does your child love to paint, sculpt, draw, print, and more?  Cultivate their creative abilities in our summer camp, starting Monday, June 10 and running through July 26.  Young artists entering grades 1 through 6 will observe and explore artwork in the Museum’s galleries and gardens, experiment with different art media in the studio, and create and showcase their artwork in a special exhibition each week.  Each camp is taught by professional Museum Educators trained in the fields of art history, fine arts, education, and science who will build the skills for students to look at, connect with, and create art in more personal ways.  The Education team creates fun and engaging art projects and experiences inspired by the Museum’s permanent collection, gardens, and special exhibitions that will spark your child’s creativity and imagination. 
Six weeks of Summer Camp to choose from:
Week 1: Artful Animals - Mon, Jun 10 through Fri, Jun 14 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Animals are on the loose in the Museum. Search the galleries and gardens for snakes, butterflies, cats, and other creatures. Explore the hidden meaning of animals in artwork, and create your own animal-inspired art.
(Grades 1-3 SOLD OUT, Grades 4-6 Available).
Week 2: Land, Water, and Sky -
Mon, Jun 17 through Fri, Jun 21 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Explore landscapes, cityscapes, waterways, and skies in artwork from the Museum’s Permanent Collection and from French Moderns: Monet to Matisse. The St. John’s River and the Cummer Gardens will provide active inspiration for budding young artists.
(Grades 1-3 SOLD OUT, Grades 4-6 Available).
Week 3: Sculpt It -
Mon, Jun 24 through Fri, Jun 28 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Create three-dimensional artwork using a variety of different sculpting techniques and materials such as clay, wood, and cardboard. Students will explore artwork in the Museum gardens and the work of sculptor, Carlos Rolón.

Week 4: Rhythm and Rhyme -
Mon, Jul 8 through Fri, Jul 12 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - The rhythm is gonna get you while using music and poetry to explore the permanent collection and French Moderns: Monet to Matisse. Discover how rhythm and rhyme inspire artists and let it transform your art.
Week 5: Line, Shape, and Color - Mon, Jul 15 through Fri, Jul 19 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Students will delve into the basic elements of art by exploring line, shape, and color, and combining their own marks and colors to create unique works for art.
Week 6: Art Around the World - Mon, Jul 22 through Fri, Jul 26 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  From Egyptian sarcophagi to Meissen porcelain, students will explore cultures from around the world using artwork from the permanent collection and will create an ancient-inspired art piece of their own.

Soirée Bohème: A French Dinner Party
- Thu, Jun 13 | 6 to 9 p.m. | Registration required.  Single Dinner: VIP | $250.  General | Members $150, Non-Members $175.  Young Professionals (40 and under) | Members $100, Non-Members $125.
Travel back to the decadent cafes of France, when the can-can was unconventional and the parties extravagant. Gather like the artists of the cabaret, Le Chat Noir, to enjoy music as lively as the conversation and cuisine as “haute” as the fashion. Dress is anything that is très chic and brings you closer to the world of French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850–1950. Your presence this evening not only gives the Museum a certain “je nais sais quoi”, but you’ll have access to an exclusive first look of this new exhibition. French Moderns (Members Only Preview Day) - Fri, Jun 14 | 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. | Free (Members Only) | No registration required.  Exhibition preview day will now have more flexible hours, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the Cummer Café open until 8 p.m.  Preview day provides Museum members the opportunity for private access to new exhibitions before they open to the public, exclusive docent tours throughout the day, and a 20% discount in the Cummer Shop and Cummer Café.  All Docent Tours begin in the Mason Gallery; tour times are 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Art Adventures – French Moderns: Monet To Matisse - Sat, Jun 15 | 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Members $10, Non-Members $15 | Registration required.  Ages 6 through 12.  Join the museum on the third Sat. of each month for studio classes.  In this class students will view the special exhibition French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, and then return to the studio to learn techniques for creating impressionist paintings.  Class size is limited.  For further information, please

6 p.m. - Take a family friendly interactive tour of French Moderns: Monet to Matisse through fun activities that incorporate close observation and group conversation.  The tour will start at the entrance of the exhibition.
7 p.m. – Their evening guided tour will be on French Moderns: Monet to Matisse and will start at the entrance of the exhibition.

Family Tour - French Moderns: Monet To Matisse - Tue, Jun 18 | 6 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Take a family-friendly interactive tour of French Moderns: Monet to Matisse through fun activities that incorporate close observation and group conversation.  The tour will start at the entrance of the exhibition.

Adult Workshop: Coloring in the Gardens - Thu, Jun 20 | 6 to 8 p.m. | Members $30, Non-Members $40 | Registration required.  Take a break from your busy life and enjoy a relaxing activity in the historic Cummer Gardens!  Each attendee will receive an adult coloring book with a French theme and colored pencils.  Bring a friend and sit at one of the tables they will set out in the gardens, or find a quiet spot on one of many benches.  While Cummer Staff will be on hand that evening, an instructor will not be provided.  This is a self-directed event that encourages mindfulness.  Relax and enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the St. Johns River as you use your creativity to refresh and restore.  Beer, wine, and small bites will be provided.  For further information or to register, please call 904.899.6038.

Garden Concert: Americana Concert with The Firewater Tent Revival - Sat, Jun 29 | Doors Open at 6 p.m., Concert from 7 to 9 p.m. | Members $20, Non-Members $25, Reserved Table and Seating for 10 $400 | Registration required.  Born and raised in North Florida, the guys from The Firewater Tent Revival will make you want to dance with their funky mix of Folk and Roots music!!!  The Garden Concert series takes place in the beautiful and historic Cummer Gardens overlooking the St. Johns River.
