Players by the Sea is thrilled to present “The Wiz”, a funky, gospel-inspired take on a timeless musical classic; will run from September 20th. through October 12th. After months of rehearsals, the cast and crew of 40 along with a live orchestra, is so excited to bring this show to the community. The musical follows Dorothy on her journey to the Emerald City as she meets Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion. She discovers the true meaning of “home” through her interactions with these characters, the witches, and The Wiz himself. Don’t miss this urban re-telling of a classic filled with skilled dancing, talented vocals and a whole lot of energy and spirit.
Jereme Raickett, the Production Manager for Players by the Sea, is also the Director for this musical. He’s also a skilled performer who graduated from Douglas Anderson SOTA and has worked with many theatre companies including the Alhambra Theatre & Dining; but, he’s especially inclined to direct. “Jereme has chosen a pool of talent that is diverse in our levels as well as physicality and allows us to meet in the middle. I am experiencing a stretch and pull like never before,” said Tota Li, who plays Glinda.
“If nothing more, come for the love of the stage and the thanks to the many who gave tears, sweat, time, finances and abilities, to make this thing happen. General Admission tickets are $28. Students, seniors and military can get theirs for $25. The show runs this Friday (Sept. 20) and Saturday (Sept. 21) at 8 pm. and each consecutive Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for the following three weeks with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Thursday nights are Student Nights! Bring a valid student ID to the theatre and get a half-price ticket for $14. Tickets for opening weekend (Sept. 20th. – 22nd.) are Sold Out!
PBTS is taking reservations for their special VIP experience, available for Friday and Saturday nights of The Wiz. The $50 price includes: a reserved seat, special pre-show access to a private bar with delicious soul-food appetizers and dessert provided by Lyric Soul Café and cocktails by Manifest Distillery, and a post-show meet & greet and photo opportunity with performers.
