‘A Bronx Tale’ will grace the Times Union stage for 1 night

Photos: Joan Marcus
NETworks Presentations is pleased to announce that the North American Tour of “A Bronx Tale”, Broadway’s new hit musical featuring a book by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, music by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Alan Menken, and lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Oscar and Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater will play the Times-Union Center on November 13 for one performance only!

A Bronx Tale premiered at the Tony Award–winning Paper Mill Playhouse to critical and popular acclaim in Spring 2016.  A Bronx Tale opened on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre on December 1, 2016, following previews from November 3.  The show ended its Broadway run on August 5, 2018, having played 700 performances and as the second longest running show in the history of the Longacre Theatre.

About the show: Based on the one-man show that inspired the now classic film, this streetwise musical takes audiences to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s—where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he’d love to be.  Featuring an original doo-wop score, this is a tale about respect, loyalty, love, and above all else: family.

A Bronx Tale
evolved from that one-man Off-Broadway play, A Bronx Tale, written and performed by Chazz Palminteri in 1989.  During the original Off Broadway and subsequent Los Angeles engagements, Robert De Niro came to see the show, and brought the story and star Palminteri to the screen in 1993, making his film directorial debut in the process.  Following the success of the film, Palminteri performed the one-man show A Bronx Tale on Broadway in the 2007-2008 Season.

A Bronx Tale, based on the original direction by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, will feature tour direction by Stephen Edlund with choreography by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo. The creative team also includes: Beowulf Boritt, Scenic Design; William Ivey Long, Costume Design; Howell Binkley, Lighting Design; Gareth Owen, Sound Design; Paul Huntley, Hair & Wig Design; Anne Ford-Coates, Makeup Design; Stewart/Whitley, Casting; and Robert Westley, Fight Coordinator. Music Supervision and Arrangements are by Ron Melrose and Orchestrations are by Doug Besterman.

World Champion U.S. Women’s National Team finish 2019 in JAX

The final two matches of the 2019 schedule for the U.S. Women’s National Team have been confirmed and they will bring the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions to Columbus, Ohio to face Sweden on Nov. 7 at MAPFRE Stadium (7:30 p.m. ET on FS1 & TUDN) and Jacksonville, Fla. to face Costa Rica on Nov. 10 at TIAA Bank Field (8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 & TUDN).

Heading into its final two Victory Tour matches on Oct. 3 and 6 against Korea Republic in Charlotte, N.C. and Chicago, respectively, the USA has a record of 15-1-2 in 2019, losing only to France in the first match of the year.  The U.S. Women are currently on a 14-game winning streak, which of course includes the triumphant seven-game run at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France and will finish 2019 having played 22 total matches.

Tickets for WNT-Costa Rica in Jacksonville Nov. 10, 2019 may be purchased HERE.

The meeting with Sweden, which is ranked sixth in the world after its third-place finish at the World Cup this summer, comes less than five months after the teams met in the final Group F match at the Women’s World Cup in Reims, France, a 2-0 victory for the Americans on goals from Lindsey Horan and a Sweden own goal that was created by Tobin Heath.  Sweden has begun its qualifying for the 2021 UEFA Women’s Euro, to be staged in England, downing Latvia 4-1 in the first game of Group F for both countries.

The USA has faced Costa Rica 14 times, all victories, with nine of those games coming in Concacaf qualifying competitions. The USA has faced Costa Rica in all four of the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying tournaments that have been held, meaning the countries are likely opponents in the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament that will be staged early next year.

The U.S. Women also have a long history in Jacksonville, dating back to 1996, but this will be just the fourth match played at what is now TIAA Bank Stadium. The USA last visited Jacksonville in April 2018 for a 4-0 victory against Mexico.

The match in Jacksonville will conclude the 35th year of international competition for the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Experience the sounds of Simon and Garfunkel once again

The internationally-acclaimed hit theater show “The Simon & Garfunkel Story” returns by popular demand to Jacksonville’s Times-Union Center on November 8 for one performance only during the North American tour.

The immersive concert-style theater show chronicles the amazing journey shared by the folk-rock duo, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.  It tells the story from their humble beginnings as Tom & Jerry to their incredible success as one of the best-selling music groups of the ‘60s to their dramatic split in 1970.  It culminates with the famous “The Concert in Central Park” reunion in 1981 with more than half a million fans in attendance.

Using huge projection photos and original film footage, the show also features a full live band performing all of their hits, including: ‘Mrs. Robinson’, ‘Cecilia’, ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, ‘Homeward Bound’ and many more.

With more than 100 million album sales since 1965, Simon & Garfunkel’s perfect harmonies and songs that poignantly captured the times made them one of the most successful folk-rock duos of all time.  Over the years, they won 10 Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.  In 1977, their Bridge Over Troubled Water album was nominated at the 1977 Brit Awards for Best International Album.  In 2003, Simon and Garfunkel were awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and the following year saw their “The Sound of Silence” awarded a Grammy Hall of Fame Award.

Have your holiday party by the beach at PBTS

Players by the Sea is the perfect place to spread the cheer! The theatre has private space available for hosting your holiday parties or any event this season.  Local businesses can combine a live performance of A Christmas Carol with a pre-show or post-show private party in the Studio Theatre and classroom.

Their ‘Studio Theatre’ is an intimate, 80-seat performance space that transforms beautifully to the perfect party spot!  An open stage area works as a dance floor, a space for setting up tables, presentations, or whatever a creative mind can come up with.  The built-in theatre seating gives added space for your guests to relax.  Connected to the Studio Theatre is our classroom, which is available for an add-on.  The classroom is perfect for setting up a bar, serving food (no restrictions on caterer choice), or using as a staging area.

The corporate party package includes: tickets to A Christmas Carol for $22 per ticket and every seat will be reserved.  The Studio Theatre rental is $500 and the classroom add-on is $250. Please note that event insurance is required for a holiday party at PBTS.

A Christmas Carol opens on the PBTS Main Stage Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th with shows at 8 p.m. both nights. From then until December 22nd, shows will run each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening at 8 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m. (See the linked article above)

The classic play is written by Charles Dickens, adapted by Romulus Linney.  The show is an adaptation of the story of Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey from an embittered, ungenerous creature into a giving, caring human being at the hands of three spirits, who, one Christmas Eve, show him what life means.  This richly textured play brings the full spirit of the book, as well as those of Christmases Past, Present and Yet To Come, to life on the stage.

Reserve your space while it is still available.  For more information, contact Suzanne Hudson-Smith at (904) 249-0289 or email.
