Mon., Nov. 11 - Veterans Day 2019 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Free admission in honor of Veterans Day, presented by Vystar Credit Union.  The Museum, which is typically closed to the public on Mondays, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy full access to the Museum’s permanent collection, gardens and signature exhibition, Louis Comfort Tiffany: Treasures from the Driehaus Collection.  The Cummer Café will be open during the same hours.

Autumn on Amelia Island with the Cummer

Celebrate the first day of fall with an evening of inspiration at the Southern Living Idea House, hosted by Cummer Amelia, the Nassau County Affinity Group for the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. Cummer Amelia's signature project provides museum tours for Nassau County 3rd and 4th graders.

The 2019 Southern Living Idea House, located in the stunning master-planned community of Crane Island, showcases architecture and design inspired by Fernandina Beach’s rich history.  Guests will have the opportunity to marvel at the house’s details while mingling with an engaged group of Cummer Museum supporters and staff, including George and Kathleen Gibbs Director and CEO Adam Levine, Ph.D.

The event will feature the Sean McCarthy Band performing their song, Sarah’s Island, a tribute to Crane Island, as well as food and signature cocktails from Catering by Liz Grenamyer.  Special thanks to our sponsors Riverside Homes, Crane Island Company, and Island Flower & Garden. Can you believe that it’s still Springtime? Bank Of America And Merrill Lynch Museums On Us - Sun, Jun 2 | Noon to 4 p.m. | Free to Cardholders | No registration required.  The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens offers free admission on the first Sunday of the first full weekend of the month to all Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholders through the Museums on Us program.  Each cardholder receives one free general admission to the Museum. Summer Camp at The Cummer Museum - Members $200, Non-Members $230 | Students entering grades 1 through 6.  Does your child love to paint, sculpt, draw, print, and more?  Cultivate their creative abilities in our summer camp, starting Monday, June 10 and running through July 26.  Young artists entering grades 1 through 6 will observe and explore artwork in the Museum’s galleries and gardens, experiment with different art media in the studio, and create and showcase their artwork in a special exhibition each week.  Each camp is taught by professional Museum Educators trained in the fields of art history, fine arts, education, and science who will build the skills for students to look at, connect with, and create art in more personal ways.  The Education team creates fun and engaging art projects and experiences inspired by the Museum’s permanent collection, gardens, and special exhibitions that will spark your child’s creativity and imagination. 
Six weeks of Summer Camp to choose from:
Week 1: Artful Animals - Mon, Jun 10 through Fri, Jun 14 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Animals are on the loose in the Museum. Search the galleries and gardens for snakes, butterflies, cats, and other creatures. Explore the hidden meaning of animals in artwork, and create your own animal-inspired art. (Grades 1-3 SOLD OUT, Grades 4-6 Available).
Week 2: Land, Water, and Sky - Mon, Jun 17 through Fri, Jun 21 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Explore landscapes, cityscapes, waterways, and skies in artwork from the Museum’s Permanent Collection and from French Moderns: Monet to Matisse. The St. John’s River and the Cummer Gardens will provide active inspiration for budding young artists. (Grades 1-3 SOLD OUT, Grades 4-6 Available).
Week 3: Sculpt It - Mon, Jun 24 through Fri, Jun 28 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Create three-dimensional artwork using a variety of different sculpting techniques and materials such as clay, wood, and cardboard. Students will explore artwork in the Museum gardens and the work of sculptor, Carlos Rolón. (Grades 1-3 SOLD OUT, Grades 4-6 Available).
Week 4: Rhythm and Rhyme - Mon, Jul 8 through Fri, Jul 12 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - The rhythm is gonna get you while using music and poetry to explore the permanent collection and French Moderns: Monet to Matisse. Discover how rhythm and rhyme inspire artists and let it transform your art.
Week 5: Line, Shape, and Color - Mon, Jul 15 through Fri, Jul 19 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Students will delve into the basic elements of art by exploring line, shape, and color, and combining their own marks and colors to create unique works for art.
Week 6: Art Around the World - Mon, Jul 22 through Fri, Jul 26 | 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  From Egyptian sarcophagi to Meissen porcelain, students will explore cultures from around the world using artwork from the permanent collection and will create an ancient-inspired art piece of their own. (Grades 1-3 SOLD OUT, Grades 4-6 Available).

Soirée Bohème: A French Dinner Party - Thu, Jun 13 | 6 to 9 p.m. | Registration required.  Single Dinner: VIP | $250.  General | Members $150, Non-Members $175.  Young Professionals (40 and under) | Members $100, Non-Members $125.
Travel back to the decadent cafes of France, when the can-can was unconventional and the parties extravagant. Gather like the artists of the cabaret, Le Chat Noir, to enjoy music as lively as the conversation and cuisine as “haute” as the fashion. Dress is anything that is très chic and brings you closer to the world of French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850–1950. Your presence this evening not only gives the Museum a certain “je nais sais quoi”, but you’ll have access to an exclusive first look of this new exhibition. French Moderns (Members Only Preview Day) - Fri, Jun 14 | 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. | Free (Members Only) | No registration required.  Exhibition preview day will now have more flexible hours, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the Cummer Café open until 8 p.m.  Preview day provides Museum members the opportunity for private access to new exhibitions before they open to the public, exclusive docent tours throughout the day, and a 20% discount in the Cummer Shop and Cummer Café.  All Docent Tours begin in the Mason Gallery; tour times are 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Art Adventures – French Moderns: Monet To Matisse - Sat, Jun 15 | 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Members $10, Non-Members $15 | Registration required.  Ages 6 through 12.  Join the museum on the third Sat. of each month for studio classes.  In this class students will view the special exhibition French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, and then return to the studio to learn techniques for creating impressionist paintings.  Class size is limited.  For further information, please email or call 904.355.0630.

Adult Workshop: Coloring in the Gardens - Thu, Jun 20 | 6 to 8 p.m. | Members $30, Non-Members $40 | Registration required.  Take a break from your busy life and enjoy a relaxing activity in the historic Cummer Gardens!  Each attendee will receive an adult coloring book with a French theme and colored pencils.  Bring a friend and sit at one of the tables they will set out in the gardens, or find a quiet spot on one of many benches.  While Cummer Staff will be on hand that evening, an instructor will not be provided.  This is a self-directed event that encourages mindfulness.  Relax and enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the St. Johns River as you use your creativity to refresh and restore.  Beer, wine, and small bites will be provided.  For further information or to register, please call 904.899.6038.

Garden Concert: Hear In Now - Sat, Mar. 9 | Doors Open at 6 p.m., Concert from 7 to 9 p.m. | Members $20, Non-Members $25, Reserved Table and Seating for 10 $400 | Registration required.  In partnership with Avant Arts, join us for a concert with HEAR in NOW, featuring Mazz Swift, Tomeka Reid, and Silvia Bolognesi.  This world-class collective is a string trio that composes and improvises fluidly between free jazz and contemporary classical, folk music, and avant-garde.  Be prepared to be engaged by their signature weaving of song, melody, and improvisation in a rich, unique, and diverse musical experience that speaks directly to your soul. Cummer Amelia An Afternoon Of Art: Caravaggio And The Drama Of Baroque Art - Thurs., Mar. 28 | 2 to 4 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Fernandina Beach Branch Library.  Although he died in 1610, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the bad boy of Baroque art, cast a long shadow over most of the 17th century.  Numerous artists were influenced by him while others rejected his dramatic and realistic approach.  Selections from the Museum’s impressive Baroque collection, including an early work by Peter Paul Rubens, will be discussed in the context of Caravaggio’s contributions and challenges to artistic norms.  For further information, please email Brittany Nazario or call 904.899.6007.

Adult Garden Workshop: Herbal Teas - Thurs., Mar. 28 | Doors open at 5:45 p.m., workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. | Members $30, Non-Members $40 | Registration required.   Armstrong Farms is hosting an Herbal Tea Workshop at the Cummer Museum.  Participants will learn about easy-to-grow and easy-to-brew herbal teas and will make five to seven different herbal teas to sample and discuss.  All supplies will be provided, along with beer, wine, and cheese. Open Days Garden Tours - Members and Non-Members $30 OR $10 per person at each private garden | Registration required.  Join the Museum as part of the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program.  Make the Cummer Gardens the first stop on your tour of a number of private riverfront gardens in the historic San Marco neighborhood.  Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand in each garden throughout the day to answer your questions.  All gardens will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Start your day at the Museum to receive your day passes and maps.  Day passes and maps will also be available at The Wardroom LTD, 1969 San Marco Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join the 2018 ‘Envirofest’ with the Cummer Museum

Join the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, in partnership with the Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board, for the 5th annual “Envirofest” on Saturday, October 6, 2018.  This is a free family-friendly event that seeks to cultivate curiosity, respect, and understanding of the Jacksonville community’s shared natural environment, and the plant and animal wildlife in and around the city’s neighborhoods.

This event offers learning opportunities that encourage individuals to better understand sustainable practices and their importance in conserving natural resources.  Guests will enjoy live music from local musicians, interactive booths and projects from environmentally conscious vendors, eco-friendly hands-on art activities, and the opportunity to watch local artists in action as they create artwork.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Envirofest will be jam-packed with fun for kids of all ages!  Attendees can:
  Join Bailey’s Health & Fitness, with your own mat, for yoga from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
  Join docents for Garden Tours at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. with information about restoration and support, as well as a 2 p.m. tour of the Permanent Collection

Artists & World War I: Behind The Lines - Thurs., Oct 4 | 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. | Members Free, Non-Members $10 | Registration required.  World War I was the first truly mechanized global war and it changed everything, including art.  This four-part series examines how artists captured the Great War and the post-war world, creating the path for Modern Art that would send shock waves across the cultural landscape.  Hospitals, staging areas, general headquarters, nearby towns, and even prisoner of war camps were all part of the labyrinth of war behind the lines recorded by artists.  Women were there in large numbers for the first time as nurses, VADS, ambulance drivers, and Red Cross personnel.  There was no behind the lines in France and Belgium, as they fought on their own soil. Cummer Beaches Lecture Series: Rome As A Center For The Arts - Fri., Oct 5 | 5:30 to 7 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Beaches Museum & History Park Chapel.  This presentation will focus on the Eternal City as a source of opportunity and patronage for artists such Michelangelo, Raphael, Bernini, and countless others.  The central role of Rome as an artistic and training hub was sustained by the presence of wealthy merchants, bankers, ecclesiastic figures and, of course, the Church.  Artists from all corners of Europe, and later the United States, from the 15th century forward, flocked to the Italian city.  Works from the Museum’s collection offer many examples, including paintings by Claude Lorrain and Charles-Joseph Natoire.
