‘The Eagles’ are flying into JAX for one performance only!

The Florida Theatre is pleased to announce “The Eagles – Their Greatest Hits performed by Classic Albums Live” and will be in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 8 p.m.

Classic Albums Live takes classic albums and recreates them live, on stage - note for note, cut for cut. Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live has become the ultimate destination for music lovers wanting to hear the greatest albums performed live without all the gimmickry and cheesy impersonations. Relying only on the music, using what Martin refers to as 'the world's best musicians,' Classic Albums Live has defined itself as a mainstay in Performing Arts Centers across North America.

Martin shares some behind-the-scenes insight into Classic Albums Live’s performance of Eagles – Greatest Hits: “The Eagles sold more albums than anyone else. Think of that. Picture what 50 million albums stacked up looks like. Wow. I bought this album on 8-track. Then later on vinyl. Then I owned it on cassette. Then, dammit, I bought the CD. I stopped there and dragged the songs from my CD to my iTunes. The voices on this album are complex. The harmonies and lush detail take attention to detail and a trained ear. We’ve got it. Hearing “Take it to the Limit” performed live is a moving experience. “Best of My Love” makes you look differently at your partner – more appreciatively. And “One of These Nights” grooves. The Eagles are America’s greatest band. We’ve grown up alongside their music. We’re going to pay this album the respect it deserves and perform it note for note – cut for cut.”

This will be a socially-distanced event with health and safety protocols in place. Patrons can visit floridatheatre.com/home/breaking-news for the most up to date information on The Florida Theatre’s safety protocols and general updates, Additionally, ticket purchasers will be notified by email of specific safety requirements prior to the event.

Musical ‘Smoke on the Mountain’ comes to the Alhambra Theatre

What the Alhambra audience and just about everyone needs right now is a reason to sing and laugh. So is the idea behind opening “Smoke on the Mountain”, and its long catalogue of gospel-feeling music sung by the cast as the fictional Sanders Family, an offbeat troupe of traveling singers.

“Smoke on the Mountain” tells the story of a Saturday Night Gospel Sing at a country church in North Carolina’s Smoky Mountains in 1938. The show features two dozen rousing bluegrass songs played and sung by the Sanders Family, a traveling troupe making its return to performing after a five-year hiatus. The young and enthusiastic Pastor Oglethorpe of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church has enlisted the Sanders Family in his efforts to bring this tiny congregation into “the modern world.” Between songs, each family member “witnesses,” providing the story of the show.

Though they appear perfect in the eyes of the congregation who wants to be inspired by their songs, one thing after another goes awry and they reveal their true, hilariously imperfect selves. By the end of the evening, the Sanders Family endears themselves to the audience by revealing their weaknesses and allowing us to share in their triumphs.

The Alhambra will continue its 2021 season with limited seating due to its policy of strictly adhering to COVID-19 protocols. “Our role in this community is to provide entertainment and a respite for our family of guests,” said Smith. “We will always put their experience first, and this is what they told us they wanted.” With Season Partners having renewed at an even faster pace than for 2020 and hosting a sold-out season opener with Singin’ in the Rain, Smith feels reassured in the decisions he and his team made. “We’re delighted to make the seating work, and even more delighted that our guests are responding with such love and support.”
