Santa Clause Again?

The man in the red and while suit is really a ‘scapegoat’ if you look at the myth for what it really is.  A parent promises a child something and later the parent is unable to supply the child’s desires, so the parent blames the ‘lack of something’, on Santa.  If the parent fails to be able to deliver, then blaming Santa, still makes the parent looks good in the eyes of the child.  The parent says, “It was Santa’s fault that Rudo didn’t get his particular toy”, that’s nothing but a lie compiled on top of another lie.  We as parents shouldn’t make promises that we may not be able to keep.

Santa Clause

Ms. "V", Granddaughter, Santa (nice man) and Tonya

The true story of Santa Claus begins with Saint Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara.  At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey. His wealthy parents, who raised him to be a devout Christian, died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young. Obeying Jesus' words to "sell what you own and give the money to the poor," Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships.
Saint Nicholas
Americans have chosen a jolly old fictitious man dressed in a red and white suit to represent Saint Nicholas or Santa Clause.  The world has adopted this man to represent hope, love, joy, peace, goodness, gentleness, and faith, not realizing that the hope that they search for is in the Fruit of God’s Holy Spirit.
Parents have told their children falsehoods about this man who supposedly comes down the chimney (then more lies to cover up the fact that there is no chimney in their house or apartment) bearing gifts.  We shouldn’t lie, especially to our children.  This myth has caused us to mound one lie on top of another and then another.  Children should know the truth about Santa Clause (he was a good man), ‘The Tooth Fairy’, ‘The Easter Bunny’, ‘Monsters’ in the closet and under the bed; they don’t exist, period.

Why Send Christmas Cards?

Some people may have already started decorating for Christmas, yet in some households the traditional time to “deck the halls” comes right after Thanksgiving.  There are also cards to send out (although a lot of people have evolved more to cyber greetings then using the standard Christmas card). Or are people waiting to see who will send them a card first? Sending cards shouldn’t be a chore or an obligation. It’s a time to “reach out and touch someone”
Make a collage from those Christmas photos

Yes, the cost of stamps has increased; yet take note how the number of your friends, relatives and associates may have dwindled. Some people may have died or just aren’t doing as well as you seem to be doing. They may be “too busy” (now that’s a sad and overused expression – we’re all busy these days), they might have lost your address, or they may have lost their joy – ‘Bah Humbug’. Your card may be the only tangible thing they receive, and can look at throughout the year, knowing that someone still cares.

Cyber cards are fine; however a hand written card is exceptional. It may take a little time, effort and money. You don’t have to get expensive cards (Hint for next year’s cards: Get the pretty ones the day after Christmas for the following year – usually 75% off.); nonetheless it shows that you thought enough to send the very best (sounds like a slogan doesn’t it?)  Even if you get your secretary to do the work for you, it’s better than putting all you addresses in “CC or BCC”, adding a cute little graphic and hitting the “send button”.

You may not want to “stay-in-touch” anymore (because the other person didn’t respond last year or they just ‘ticked-you-off’), but give the communication effort a couple of years before you decide to disconnect. You may need to let the other person know that they offended you; then do it with kindness, forgive them and move on with your life. The question to ask yourself is, “Who are your friends or who are mere acquaintances that you no longer have a ‘common bond’ to share?”  Sometimes it’s a tough decision (does the person need your friendship, or are they just sucking the life out of you?) After the second year of no response, it may be time to let it go.

If you’ve been blessed to have someone’s physical address, then go ahead – send them a card. The longer you live – the shorter your Christmas card list may become. It shouldn’t be hard to stay in touch at least once a year. Take a little time out of your busy schedule and send a card today. It’s good to get something in the mail besides bills and advertisements.  Besides, the retail market is stealing the true reason for the holiday season.

Proverbs 18:24 KJV “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

“Continued Thanks Being Unto God”

(August 22, 1997)

“Lord, I had forgotten to thank You for my daughter getting the part-time job that she wanted, but Father, she’s only a junior in high school.  I don’t want her to miss out on her teenage years.  I don’t want to spoil her but to bless her with a used car.  She wants to be able to buy clothes, so she doesn’t have to wear the same clothes over and over again.  I know other teens work, but Lord I don’t want her to have to work in order to get some of the things she wants.  I know that this is the honest way and that she will be a stronger person for her endeavors.  I want her to enjoy her young adult life as a teenager, yet it was a desire of her heart to work and go to school.  After-school jobs are okay, but a students’ first and most important job should be bringing home good grades.”

When Things Look Bleak – Stand!

Ms. "V" & Van enjoying life

It started with a visit to the Doctors on Aug. 29th when what appeared to be gas below my shoulder blade, didn’t subside.  The pain was enough to cause me to seek help.  After an examination, my Doctor scheduled a Chest X-ray.  I hadn’t had a CXR since 2001.  There was no coughing.  I don’t smoke, nor was there any other problem.

The X-ray report showed something that concerned my Doctor, yet he didn’t tell me anything.  He had also ordered a CT Scan about a few days later.  The original pain was almost gone, but I was troubled with no one giving me any diagnosis.  The Chest X-ray had shown a “nodule” on my left lung, but my pain had occurred on my right side.  I still had reviews to do for my column and life was still going on.  During my trials, my dog also developed a cough & he was put on antibiotics.  Every time he coughed, it reminded me of what my body was going through.

CT Scan
I called to cancel another appointment to see my regular physician until he could receive and review the results of the CT Scan.  He called me back very concerned.  I reaffirmed to my Doctor that I believed in the power of God and prayer.  He was sincere when he said that I should add my name to a prayer list.

Sure, I’m in my sixties, yet God has promised me – “Long Life”.  I was in the process of moving into a new home and the enemy was filling my mind with dread & doubt.  That’s when I got mad.  I was not preparing a place for another woman to enjoy.  I’m not leaving this world anytime soon.  My Granddaughter had recently lost her Great Grand Mother and I know that I needed to be here on this earth for my children and my children’s children.  My work is not finished.

The result of the CT Scan was in and now my primary care Physician let me know that he could not be sure if the nodules in my lung would be cancerous or not.  Because he wasn’t sure, my Doctor sent me to a Pulmonary & Critical Care Specialist.  She began to diagnose by drawing numerous vials of blood.

New Home to enjoy
By this time it’s October and every “Cancer” commercial, relay and story were highlighted on television and everywhere.  My mind had gone through numerous scenarios, nonetheless, my Husband kept me focused on God’s Word, watching what I confessed and remembering everything that I had learned.

I listened to my Doctor & Specialist, yet I kept focused on the report of our Lord despite what it looked & felt like.  God also directed so many butterflies across my path and the butterfly is a symbol of “life”.

There was another test that the Pulmonary Care Doctor scheduled: A Pulmonary Function Test which showed that my lung capacity was low.  To diverse a little, during my childhood and young adult life – I had asthma, yet through my trust in God and prayer, I overcame the symptoms.  The specialist ruled out Lupus, and the CT Scan showed some arthritis in my shoulder (still don’t feel any pain there).  I stand strong and bind-up these symptoms, in the name of Jesus.

My next scheduled test by the specialist was a PET Scan.  This test consisted of some radioactive fluid injected into my body and then a machine scanned me to see if there was any cancer.  For the next 24 hours after the test, I could not come near any children or pregnant women, so I was very careful.

Too much to live for
My mind went through, “What If’s” and “What Might”.  During times like these, I never turned my back on my faith or on God.  God has a purpose for my life, and He’s brought me from a mighty long way.  In my lifetime I have overcome: Asthma, Skin Legions, Phlebitis, Hepatitis C (from a blood transfusion after a C-Section), lower Back Surgery (Laminectomy), Shingles, lower GI Bleeding and a Broken Ankle, just to name a few.

The findings came back that there is NO CANCER and the report has given me a new respect for Cancer patients and survivors.  My next exam will be in Jan. 2013.  I believe that by that time, God will display a miracle in my body that the Doctors will recognize that He has established the healing.  I was given an inhaler that made my breathing easier.  Oh, by-the-way, COPD was also mentioned by the doctors, nevertheless with the grace of God - I am overcoming that too.  (as of June 2013 breathing is better without inhaler).

I was compelled to write this testimony in order to help someone else who may be going through a similar situation.  If you have something troubling you, and you can believe that God is willing and able to heal and deliver – then put your trust in Him, live your life’s purpose & STAND!  #TBR1 (Trust, Believe, Receive).  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Heb.11:1.

I Acknowledge You

Proverbs 3: 5-
Do you know how sometimes you feel that God is not listening?  Or you’ve checked everything that you know according to the ordinances of God’s will, and it seems that your prayers are not reaching Gods’ ear?  It happens to the best of us.  Yet, rest assured that God hears, He understands, and He is working on your situation.

He lets us know that He hears us.  He tells us, in a subtle small way, that only God could make happen, that all is well and for us to hold out until later…(see Where Did That Come From)

You may not think that was something special, but I believe it to be God letting me know that He heard everything.  Some things may happen right away, as that incident did, and other expectations may take longer.

When things take longer than we anticipate, it’s usually because what we request from God is not His best for us at that time.  It may not be arriving on our so-called timetable, but, if we wait and allow God to be God, then we will receive the abundant, bountiful blessings of The Most High.  “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Gal. 6:9).

Consider the story of Joseph.[1]  Here was a man favored by his daddy.  Jealous brothers sold him (instead of killing him), into slavery in a foreign country, because he was “All that and a bag of chips.”  The Brother had game. (a gift).

Although a slave in his new place, Joseph was shown favor in the household of his new master.  Sometimes we too are blessed, and we think it’s the greatest blessing that God would have for us—but it’s not God’s best…(see Where Did That Come From)

Hands of God and Adam
The man was so good at what he did that the Pharaoh of Egypt called for him.  How about that?  Joseph went “From the Pit to the Palace.  In the end, Joseph’s brothers had to become submissive to Joseph because God had blessed Joseph with much more than he could ever have imagined.

Joseph had been lied about and mistreated numerous times, yet he held onto his faith in his one true God: Jehovah.  He didn’t allow circumstances to cause him to take his eyes off of God, the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2).

Sometimes, I too feel trapped and hopeless as Joseph must have; yet every time I see a butterfly, it reminds me that God loves me, and that He’s sending me something beautiful to fly across my path and brighten my day.  It’s as if God were presenting me with a present. He bestows so many little blessings on us that sometimes we don’t even notice them.

So, if you’re feeling as if God just doesn’t hear you through all of the tears you’ve shed, trust me, He hears, and, if you hold onto His promises, your reward is on its way; “…but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth” (Ps. 37: 9).

"Now Faith..."
When God tells you that you can, don’t allow anyone to tell you that you can’t.  God will never leave us or forsake us.  He’s right there saying, “I acknowledge you and better things are coming.” ― “I recently had to reread this for myself and grab hold to the promises of God”- Ms. “V”
