ORCA golf bags women’s match play championship

ORCA Golf Bags Women’s Match Play Championship has just announced PXG (Parsons Xtreme Golf) – an innovative golf company dedicated to developing high-performance equipment and apparel – as presenting sponsor for its inaugural tournament. The unique, two-week tournament series for women professional players will take place at World Golf Village in October 2021. As part of its sponsorship, PXG will be featured in the official tournament logo, also being debuted.

The ORCA Golf Bags Women’s Match Play Championship presented by PXG will feature 64 women professionals pursuing their dream of playing on the LPGA Tour, battling over two weeks in two separate, but connected, tournaments. The first week will feature a 54-hole Stroke-Play tournament on the King & Bear course, which will also seed the second week’s event, a 64-woman Match-Play championship at Slammer & Squire. There will be no cut in the Stroke-Play event and all players will advance to the Match-Play tournament.

Since the company’s inception, PXG has taken a strong stance in its support of women in golf. The company lists a dozen exceptionally talented women on the LPGA Tour on its official pro roster and provides equipment to many other top-ranking female professionals.

PXG’s clubs are built to spec for each individual golfer and the company will host a live-fire fitting area for tournament players and consumers who wish to be fitted for PXG equipment. There will also be opportunities to test PXG’s extensive line of putters on the World Golf Village 18-hole putting course.

In addition to the golf competition – and of equal importance – the tournament will celebrate women’s initiatives by providing programming such as leadership forums, executive networking, and education. The programming will be developed and provided by Generation W, a national nonprofit based in Jacksonville Beach (FL) founded and run by Donna Orender, whose mission embraces the guiding tenets of education, inspiration, and connection and the power of women’s leadership.

“The Generation W programming is a critical aspect of this event,” said Erica Bennett. “There are myriad career opportunities outside the ropes for women in the golf business and in the manufacturing business, and we want to promote that aspect of our industry as well.”

Each tournament will have its own prize purse, a guarantee of $50,000 shared between the two events. The winner of the Match Play event will be The ORCA Champion, and in addition to cash prize money will also receive a $2,500 Gift Card from PXG, as well as a commemorative golf bag designed by Erica Bennett of ORCA Golf Bags. The tournament series will feature a pro-am event, junior clinics, and local community-based activities and fundraising opportunities.

The ORCA Golf Bags Women’s Match Play Championship presented by PXG represents two of the 14 official events on the Women’s All Pro Tour (WAPT) in 2021. The WAPT was established in 2019 in partnership with the LPGA’s Symetra Tour. The WAPT is the Official Qualifying Tour for the LPGA’s Symetra Tour, providing more opportunities for women to play professional golf and to advance their careers to the next level. “We are very excited to bring the WAPT to the Jacksonville area and, in particular, the World Golf Village”, says Gary DeSerrano, WAPT president. “We are certain the next stars of women’s professional golf will look forward to this new and exciting event.”

Information on elevated hospitality opportunities, Pro-Am spots, tickets, key sponsorships, and volunteering is available on the tournament website at and by calling MediaShare Consulting Group at (904) 838-4962. You may reach the office by email.

Frictionless COVID-19 screening at VyStar Vet Memorial event

UFC, the world’s premier mixed martial arts organization, and CLEAR announced a partnership to utilize CLEAR’s Health Pass to more safely welcome fans back at UFC® 261. USMAN vs. MASVIDAL 2 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. on Saturday, April 24, 2021.

The event represents the first, sold out, major sporting event with full capacity at an indoor arena in the United States since last year. Tickets for UFC® 261: USMAN vs. MASVIDAL 2 sold out within hours of being made available last month. A capacity crowd of more than 15,000 fans is expected. Get tickets to View on TV or online HERE.

Health Pass is a free, mobile experience by CLEAR that securely connects a user’s verified identity to multiple layers of COVID-19-related health information to help reduce public health risk.

Ticket holders will be able to use Health Pass to connect their identity with a securely linked, confidential COVID-related health questionnaire.  All ticket holders are required to complete this questionnaire in advance, creating a seamless and expedited entry into VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena for those who are issued a green notification on their Health Pass app.

Ticket holders who receive a red notification will not be permitted entry and will be advised to seek medical guidance, as well as information on how to obtain a refund. Ticket holders who opt not to use the electronic version of CLEAR will be directed to a kiosk outside of VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena to complete a hard copy of the health questionnaire. To ensure an expedited entry into the event, ticket holders are encouraged to download Health Pass in advance and complete the questionnaire before arriving at the arena.

UFC® 261: USMAN vs. MASVIDAL 2 will be held in accordance with all health and safety protocols of the City of Jacksonville. UFC encourages fans to wear face masks at the event. Through a partnership with O2 Industries, a leading manufacturer of reusable respirators, UFC will provide face masks to all ticket holders upon entry.

More than 60 organizations across the country use Health Pass to create safer environments, including teams across all major sports leagues, the state of Hawaii, and many more. Health Pass builds upon CLEAR’s history of creating frictionless experiences in sports, including innovative pilots for touchless ticketing, biometric payments and age validation.

How It Works: Using Health Pass
Download and Enroll at Home:
Fans download the free CLEAR app directly from CLEAR (or from the App store for iOS devices or Google Play store for Android devices) and open the Health Pass feature, select their event, and then verify their identity by uploading an identifying document and snapping a quick selfie.

●     Confidential Health Questionnaire: Verified ticket holders will then be presented with a brief series of health-related questions designed to reveal if they may have recently been exposed to COVID-19.

●     Touchless Access: Depending on their COVID-related health information, fans are issued a red or green notification on their Health Pass app.

●     Privacy First: With CLEAR, you are always in control of your information. The venue only receives confirmation a fan has satisfied the requirements for access with the equivalent of a red light or green light signal — and never has access to an individual’s private health details.

Spring ‘Drug Take-Back-Day’ 2021

Despite dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is still very necessary to properly dispose of unused medications. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the locations and times below. The aim of the event is to encourage the public to remove any access to drugs that may potentially be abused by friends, family and others; or would be harmful to pets and children.

Some drugs, such as inhalers, damage the protective ozone layer. Flushing certain medications down the commode, raises concern about trace levels of drug residues that may be found in surface water, such as rivers and lakes, and in some community drinking water supplies. The same concern arises if we were to dispose of drugs down our kitchen, bathroom or utility sinks. It’s a fact that people excrete low levels of medication through their urine when they use the restroom, yet flushing is still no way to get rid of unwanted meds.

Preparing medications for disposal: Before throwing out a medicine container, scratch out all identifying information on the prescription label to make it unreadable. This will help protect your identity and the privacy of your personal health information.

Do not give your medicine to friends. Doctors prescribe medicines based on a person's specific symptoms and medical history. A medicine that works for you could be dangerous for someone else.

The safest way to get rid of unwanted meds is by going to a drop-off point, but, if you are really unable to go to a drop-off site, take a look at the related video above for another alternative for disposal.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
DATE: Saturday April 24, 2021
TIMES: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

LOCATIONS:  JAX Naval Base and others
If you live in Jacksonville or anywhere else in the USA, click HERE with your location and click “search again” to find a drop site near you.

Get rid of those old drugs in the medicine cabinet. Don't flush them, or give them away.

‘Deana Carter’ brings acoustic performance to JAX

Singer, songwriter and producer Deana Carter will give a live acoustic performance at Terry Theater at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, May 15.

The 90s country music artist will be featured in an intimate acoustic setting where her powerful voice and guitar are the subject of the spotlight. This will be an up-close and personal event punctuated by personal stories and anecdotes about her life and musical influences, while performing some of her biggest hits, including “Strawberry Wine,” “We Danced Anyway,” and “Did I Shave My Legs for This?”.

Her superstar success continues to be evident as the chart topper “You & Tequila,” co- written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated as CMA’s “Song of the Year”, as well as two Grammy nods, notably the coveted “Song of the Year” and also received a nomination as ACM’s “Song of the Year”.

Sparta, Ga. native Faren Rachels will be the opening support act. In November of 2017 Rachels released the self-titled EP, “Faren Rachels” & joined Luke Combs on his fall tour. During this time, Rolling Stone named her one of 2018’s new country “artists to watch”.

This will be a safe, socially distanced event with very limited capacity brought to you by Georgia-based concert promotion company Six String Southern Productions.

About Deana Carter: Drenched in sun-kissed natural beauty both inside and out, Deana Carter didn’t take a seemingly easy route to stardom, but instead chose to defy the conventional expectations of the typical Nashville artist blueprint and make her own mark. And she did, undeniably taking the industry and fans by storm with her wildly successful multi- platinum international debut “Did I Shave My Legs For This?” more than a decade ago. Anchored by the dreamy super hit “Strawberry Wine,” Carter showcased her own blend of country and retro-rock sprinkled with the folksy singer/songwriter qualities that have garnered Deana Carter well-deserved respect and wild acclaim.

Free Summer theater coming to the Florida Theatre

The Florida Theatre’s Theatreworks program has revealed the 2021 lineup for Free Summer Theatre sponsored by CITI. All four Free Summer Theatre events will take place at the Florida Theatre with show times of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Admission is free and reservations are required. Seats can be reserved now at

The Florida Theatre’s Theatreworks program provides the best national and international professional touring children’s theatre to the school age children and summer campers of the First Coast region. Founded in 1979, Theatreworks was an independent organization until it merged with the Florida Theatre in 2019.

The 2021 Free Summer Theatre lineup is:
Wednesday, June 16 - Princess Thimbelina: Princess Thimbelina is Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story of a tiny fairy child looking for happiness. The 45-minute musical is vividly presented on stage with giant puppets and inflatable garden. A flower witch enchants the fairy child. A frog scares her. A big blue sparrow hawk befriends her. And a mumbling mole and spinning spider are helped by Thimbelina as she waits for Spring and a chance to bloom. Princess Thimbelina and her menagerie of giant garden animal puppets hope to meet you and share a smile!

Wednesday, July 14 - Doug Berky’s Gems: The World’s Wisdom Stories: Doug Berky believes that stories should be seen as well as heard. He uses improvisation, mime, masks, voice, and puppetry, to let the story to let express itself. The result is a visual feast filled with fanciful characters, drama, comedy, and many twists and turns. The stories are “Gems” of wisdom passed down to us from many peoples around the world. Tales include "The Lion and the Mouse," "The Crocodile and the Monkey," and "The Drip Nose Boy."

Thursday, July 15 - Doug Berky’s No Show: “No Show” is a comic tapestry woven from physical comedy, mime, music, mask theatre, clowning, improvisation, and circus arts. Doug draws from these vast traditions to delight audiences internationally and across the US. “No Show” begins with the premise that a performance has been scheduled, the stage is set with props and costumes, the audience has gathered and is seated and waiting, but the actors are a no show. What might happen when someone from the audience approaches the stage and discovers all that awaits. Masterful mayhem? Perhaps. Imagine one’s first attempt at riding a unicycle, the discovery of theatrical masks, juggling clubs, and a sousaphone. Can one really keep rhythm juggling shakers while playing classical music on harmonica? Experiencing “No Show” may just satisfy your curiosity.

Tuesday, July 20 - The Time Machine: H.G. Wells’s 1895 Science Fiction novel travels to the stage in this “steampunk” rock musical. A Victorian-era time traveler ventures far into the future encountering the ethereal Eloi and the dangerous subterranean Morlocks. He must return to his own time with a lesson in embracing diversity essential to saving the human species.

Theatreworks: Free Summer Theatre is Sponsored by CITI, Kirbo Charitable Trust and W.W. & the Eloise D. Gay Foundation.
