Mayor Lenny Curry and Brian E. Wolfburg, President/CEO of VyStar Credit Union,
announced that a naming rights agreement has been reached between VyStar and
the City of Jacksonville for the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena – a first
for the arena. Legislation to enact the agreement has been filed and sent to
the Jacksonville City Council. Pending
City Council approval, the arena will be known as VyStar Veterans Memorial
Arena.
“In coordination with veteran leaders, my
staff and VyStar, we have an agreement that is good for taxpayers and at the
same time creates new program funding for veterans in our City,” said Mayor
Curry. “This is a win for everyone involved, and I
will work with the City Council to earn their approval.”
Brian Wolfburg says, “VyStar will be
honored to have its name alongside our brave veterans’ on the arena. Both of
our missions, to serve and recognize our great military, could not be more
aligned. Based on VyStar’s deep roots in
the military community, past and present, we can’t imagine a more suitable
naming partnership.”
In addition, the naming rights agreement provides for several Veteran support
initiatives – including a concessions donation program, which will allow arena
patrons to make donations to an approved veteran program when making a purchase
at the arena’s concessions stands. Other
initiatives include a veteran memorial, as well as discounts for veterans and
VyStar members on concessions, tickets, and parking. Veterans will also be included in ticket
presale opportunities making it possible for them to purchase tickets before
public on-sales.
Formerly known as Jax Navy Federal Credit Union, VyStar was chartered in 1952
at Naval Air Station Jacksonville (NAS Jax) to provide civil service and
military employees and their families a safe place to save and borrow money. It
wasn’t until 2002 that VyStar (then Jax Navy Federal) opened membership to the
five-county area – including Duval, Clay, Nassau, St. Johns, and Baker counties
– and changed its name to VyStar Credit Union.
The PBR (Professional Bull Riders) announced
that Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena will host the Velocity Tour’s (VT)
event in Jacksonville, FL for the first time since 2015 on Saturday, February
16, 2019.
For one night, some of the best bull riders in the world will battle the
sport’s fiercest bovine athletes. The
thrilling 8-second rides and heart-stopping wrecks make the PBR’s VT Tour one
of the most exciting live sporting events to witness.
Each rider will face one bull in Round 1 before the 10 riders with the highest
score advance to the championship round. At the end of the competition, the rider with
the highest combined score in the two rounds will be crowned the champion.
Jacksonville will be the 10th stop on the 2019 VT Tour, which spans the country
in cities including Salinas, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rapid
City, South Dakota; Rochester, New York, and Ontario, California.
The 2019 RVT Tour will culminate with the RVT Finals at South Point Arena in
Las Vegas in November, leading into the PBR Unleash The Beast World Finals. The winner of the VT Finals, the second- and
third-place finishers, and the top international performer, along with the 2019
VT Tour Champion, will each qualify to compete at the PBR World Finals.

Carol Burnett: “An Evening of Laughter and Reflection” on Friday, February 8, 2019
at the Times Union Center in the Moran Theatre.
Tickets are still available!
During “An Evening of
Laughter and Reflection,” Burnett will take questions from the audience. She’ll also show video clips from her shows
in a format that harkens back to the legendary openings of The Carol Burnett
Show where her studio audience had an unfiltered opportunity to engage Carol
with questions and receive spontaneous answers.
“I love the spontaneity of these evenings,” said Carol. “I never know what anyone is going to ask, or
say, or do, so it keeps me on my toes!”
Carol Burnett,
award-winning actress and best-selling author, is widely recognized by the
public and her peers for her work on stage and screen, most notably The Carol
Burnett Show. Named in 2007 by TIME
magazine as one of “100 Best Television
Shows of All Time,” The Carol Burnett Show ran for 11 years, averaged 30
million viewers per week, and received 25 Emmy Awards, making it one of the
most honored shows in television history. But it is Ms. Burnett’s artistic brilliance,
her respect and appreciation of her fans, and her graciousness, integrity,
warmth, and humor on and off screen that have made her one of the most beloved
performers in entertainment and one of the most admired women in America.
As a highly acclaimed actress, Ms. Burnett has been honored with Emmys, Golden
Globes, People’s Choice Awards, the Horatio Alger Award, an Ace Award, and the
Peabody. A Kennedy Center Honoree, she has also been honored with the Kennedy
Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, was
inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk
of Fame.
