Carol Burnett comes to JAX for 1 evening

Carol Burnett: “An Evening of Laughter and Reflection” on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Times Union Center in the Moran Theatre.  Tickets are still available!

During An Evening of Laughter and Reflection,” Burnett will take questions from the audience.  She’ll also show video clips from her shows in a format that harkens back to the legendary openings of The Carol Burnett Show where her studio audience had an unfiltered opportunity to engage Carol with questions and receive spontaneous answers.  “I love the spontaneity of these evenings,” said Carol.  “I never know what anyone is going to ask, or say, or do, so it keeps me on my toes!”

Carol Burnett, award-winning actress and best-selling author, is widely recognized by the public and her peers for her work on stage and screen, most notably The Carol Burnett Show.  Named in 2007 by TIME magazine as one of “100 Best Television Shows of All Time,” The Carol Burnett Show ran for 11 years, averaged 30 million viewers per week, and received 25 Emmy Awards, making it one of the most honored shows in television history.  But it is Ms. Burnett’s artistic brilliance, her respect and appreciation of her fans, and her graciousness, integrity, warmth, and humor on and off screen that have made her one of the most beloved performers in entertainment and one of the most admired women in America.

As a highly acclaimed actress, Ms. Burnett has been honored with Emmys, Golden Globes, People’s Choice Awards, the Horatio Alger Award, an Ace Award, and the Peabody. A Kennedy Center Honoree, she has also been honored with the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Vicki Lawrence is a complete two-woman show

She came, she conquered the audience, and she was off to the next location after she and Mama had their engagement at the Thrasher-Horne Center in Orange Park Florida.  Vicki Lawrence gave a humorous performance for about an hour and a half.  You will have a great opportunity to experience the antics of Mama and Vicki, in a location near you.  She’s just as beautiful and talented as she was years ago, and her mind is as sharp as ever.

Vicki Lawrence’s one woman extravaganza started with her explanation of how she got started in show-business and then she shared interesting stories like: “The carpet not matching the drapes,” “Hair Glitter,” being married to her husband ‘Al’ with his ex-football physique.  While talking about her pregnancies, children and her first husband, you will be able to identify with her many different situations in life.

Where you aware that Ms Lawrence recorded the 1972 hit songThe Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia?  She sang that song and a few others (including a ‘rap’) during the evening’s festivities.  At the age of 24, Vicki began her role of Mama on the “Carol Burnett Show” and later expanded the role in “Mama’s Family.”  After watching about 15 minutes of hilarious outtakes from a few TV episodes, Vicki came back on stage as Mama.  During this time, Mama talks about current happenings, people and keeps her audience in stitches.

'Mama' and Vicki Lawrence visit OP for one day

Emmy Award- winning comedienne Vicki Lawrence will be bringing both of her unique styles of comedy to Thrasher-Horne Center with “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show”.  This will be Lawrence’s second appearance at Thrasher-Horne Center.

Vicki Lawrence is one of the most beloved television personalities of her generation.  Plucked out of total obscurity as a high school senior, Vicki went on to become part of the now-legendary cast of the "Carol Burnett Show." "I went to the Harvard School of Comedy in front of America," says Ms. Lawrence of her Burnett Show training.

In the seventh season, and hundreds of hilarious sketches later, at the ripe, old age of 24, Vicki created her most endearing character to date, Thelma Harper, or "Mama" as she is better known to her fans. After the Burnett Show, Vicki went on to star in "Mama's Family," which consistently topped the ratings for its entire six-year run of original shows. "Mama" has attained almost a cult status among her legions of loyal television viewers.

In 2001 following the unprecedented ratings for the "Carol Burnett Showstopper Special," which delighted more than 50 million viewers, Ms. Lawrence decided that the time is right to take Mama out of the closet, dust off her sensible shoes and hit the road with her new touring production, Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show.

Ms. Lawrence takes the stage first. "My show is not a retrospective," she explains. It is a mixture of stand-up comedy, music and my observations about real life." The multi-talented entertainer is mostly known for her acting and comedic talents, but she also earned a gold record for the 1973 hit, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia."

"I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about. We're creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge. Where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected. There's really nothing she can't do," she says.  "I hope people will be pleasantly surprised by a side of Vicki they may never have seen.…I know they will be looking forward to Mama, and for her part, that crazy old gal will be up to the challenge.”
