Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens Calendar of Events: March 2019


There is so much coming to JAX in the month of March and the Cummer Museum and their restored Gardens want to welcome you inside and outside their establishment.  Bring the family, grab your co-worker, gather your friends and come to the Cummer for an enjoyable day.

Florida Blue Free Tuesday - Each Tuesday Evening from 4 to 9 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Every Tuesday, enjoy free admission to the Cummer Museum and its historic gardens, thanks to the generous support of Florida Blue. Guests can enjoy free admission to the galleries.

Tapas Tuesday - Tap into Tapas Tuesday sponsored by VyStar Credit Union at the Cummer Café.  Reservations recommended!  Every Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Cummer Café patio, take in the sunset while listening to local musicians with beer, wine, or artfully inspired tapas for sale at the Café.  Reserve your table by calling 904.899.6022.

Weaver First Saturday Free for All -
Sat., Mar. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  The first Saturday of each month at the Cummer Museum is FREE FOR ALL, thanks to the generous support of J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver. Guests can enjoy free admission, as well as art-making activities for all ages in the Cummer Gardens, live music, and a Docent-led tour at 2 p.m. For further information, please call 904.899.6038.

Bank Of America And Merrill Lynch Museums On Us - Sun, Mar.3 | Noon to 4 p.m. | Free to cardholders | No registration required.  The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens offers free admission on the first Sunday of the first full weekend of the month to all Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholders through the Museums On Us program. Spring Celebration & Plant Sale - Sat, Mar. 2 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Free | No Registration required.  Welcome Spring with a free family event and plant sale!  Celebrate the coming of the season by purchasing plants and flowers from local vendors on the front lawn of the Museum.  Enjoy live music, a hands-on family art activity, watch plein air painters create in our gardens, and join garden tours throughout the day.  For further information, please call 904.899.6038.

Art For Two: Floating Flower Gardens -
Sat, Mar. 9 | 10:30 a.m. to Noon | Members $15 per pair, Non-Members $20 per pair | Registration required.  Ages 4 & 5 with an adult.  Make art with your little one and enjoy gallery and garden visits on the second Saturday of each month. In this class students will look at the flowers in the gardens and the sculptures of Carlos Rolón in the sculpture garden. In the studio they will create mobiles using colors and shapes of nature. Garden Concert: Hear In Now - Sat, Mar. 9 | Doors Open at 6 p.m., Concert from 7 to 9 p.m. | Members $20, Non-Members $25, Reserved Table and Seating for 10 $400 | Registration required.  In partnership with Avant Arts, join us for a concert with HEAR in NOW, featuring Mazz Swift, Tomeka Reid, and Silvia Bolognesi.  This world-class collective is a string trio that composes and improvises fluidly between free jazz and contemporary classical, folk music, and avant-garde.  Be prepared to be engaged by their signature weaving of song, melody, and improvisation in a rich, unique, and diverse musical experience that speaks directly to your soul. Expect to be transported.  The Garden Concert series takes place in the beautiful and historic Cummer Gardens overlooking the St. Johns River. Art Adventures: Cummer Museum Gardens - Sat, Mar. 16 | 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Members $10, Non-Members $15 | Registration required.  Ages 6 through 12.  This class is for children ages 6 through 12.  Join the museum on the third Saturday of each month for studio classes.  In honor of the Museum’s historic gardens, this class will focus on the natural beauty of the gardens.  Students will first visit the galleries to view nature-inspired works before working from direct observation in the gardens en plein air.  Class size is limited.  For further information, please

Cummer Amelia An Afternoon Of Art: Caravaggio And The Drama Of Baroque Art - Thurs., Mar. 28 | 2 to 4 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Fernandina Beach Branch Library.  Although he died in 1610, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, the bad boy of Baroque art, cast a long shadow over most of the 17th century.  Numerous artists were influenced by him while others rejected his dramatic and realistic approach.  Selections from the Museum’s impressive Baroque collection, including an early work by Peter Paul Rubens, will be discussed in the context of Caravaggio’s contributions and challenges to artistic norms.  For further information, please

Adult Garden Workshop: Herbal Teas - Thurs., Mar. 28 | Doors open at 5:45 p.m., workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. | Members $30, Non-Members $40 | Registration required.   Armstrong Farms is hosting an Herbal Tea Workshop at the Cummer Museum.  Participants will learn about easy-to-grow and easy-to-brew herbal teas and will make five to seven different herbal teas to sample and discuss.  All supplies will be provided, along with beer, wine, and cheese. Cummer Beaches Bus Tour - Fri., Mar. 29 | 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. | Members $100 Non-members $125 | Registration required.  Bus will depart at 8 a.m. from the Books-A-Million parking lot located at 738 Marsh Landing Parkway.  Join members and guests of Cummer Beaches and the Beaches Museum to venture by bus to St. Augustine.  A full day’s schedule will include guided tours of Flagler College, including its beautiful Solarium, and The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum in the morning, followed by lunch and the Lightner Museum in the afternoon.  During lunch at Old City House we will hear an informal talk on the “St. Augustine Art Scene” by Julie Dickover, Director of the Crisp-Ellert Museum.  For further information, visit or

Art For Tots: Just Dance - Sat., Mar. 30 | 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. | Members $10, Non-Members $15 per pair | Registration required.  Ages 2 & 3 with an adult.  In this class children will visit the Lane Gallery to view a bronze sculpture depicting three young girls dancing.  In the gallery they will explore movement inspired by different music genres, and in the studio, they will create art that continues to move with them.  Entry is through Art Connections. Open Days Garden Tours -
Members and Non-Members $30 OR $10 per person at each private garden | Registration required.  Join the Museum as part of the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program.  Make the Cummer Gardens the first stop on your tour of a number of private riverfront gardens in the historic San Marco neighborhood.  Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand in each garden throughout the day to answer your questions.  All gardens will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Start your day at the Museum to receive your day passes and maps.  Day passes and maps will also be available at The Wardroom LTD, 1969 San Marco Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
