The FSCJ Artist Series announces that the Jacksonville premiere of “DEAR EVAN HANSEN” will be coming to the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts for 8 shows only!

Dear Evan Hansen features a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson (Fosse/Verdon), a score by Grammy®, Tony® and Academy Award® winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman), and direction by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif (Rent, Next to Normal).

The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons back in JAX

The Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical JERSEY BOYS, the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, will play at the Times-Union Center on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Directed by two-time Tony^® Award-winner Des McAnuff, JERSEY BOYS won the 2006 Tony^® Award for Best Musical, the 2006 Grammy Award^® for Best Musical Show Album the 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Musical, the 2010 Helpmann Award for Best Musical (Australia). 'The Hip Hop Nutcracker' soars into The Florida Theatre

Everything old is new again. Tchaikovsky’s 129-year-old ballet is reimagined as a holiday dance spectacle in The Hip Hop Nutcracker,   arriving at The Florida Theatre on December 12, 2021 at 7 p.m.

The production features hip hop pioneer Kurtis “The Breaks” Blow, the first rapper to be signed by a major label in 1979. 42 years and a heart transplant later, this hip-hop founding father is still performing as MC of The Hip Hop Nutcracker. Kurtis Blow is the music pioneer who created “Christmas Rappin’” and “The Breaks” and he’s hitting the road this holiday season. Preview the action HERE.

A cast of a dozen all-star dancers, an on-stage DJ and an electric violinist turn the beloved score on its head. The 31-city tour kicks off in San Diego, California on November 6, 2021 before stops in Oakland, St. Louis, Miami, Atlanta, New York City, and Boston.

“Through the isolation of the pandemic and for me, personally, the gift of receiving a new heart, it is time to hope again,” says Kurtis Walker, known professionally as Kurtis Blow. “And the season of hope is Christmas.” On December 6, 2020, he had a heart transplant that has given him a new life.

Blow has paved the way for generations of hip-hop artists and fans after scoring the first certified gold record rap song in 1980, “The Breaks.” He was also the first rapper to sign to a major label. Blow is also responsible for “Christmas Rappin’, the perennial first rap holiday song.

“It’s incredible for me to meet fans, and their kids, and their kids’ kids who love hip hop music,” says Blow. “It reminds me of how The Nutcracker brings people of all ages together too. I hope everyone makes holiday memories for a lifetime when they come to our show.”

COME FROM AWAY tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.

On September 11, 2001 the world stopped. On September 12, their stories moved us all.

‘HAMILTON’ a smash hit in JAX Florida

The FSCJ Artist Series sponsored by VyStar Credit Union, finally brought Broadway back to Jacksonville Florida through the live production of “HAMILTON” at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts. The entire Moran Theatre was packed (along with a symphony in the Jacoby Hall). Traffic and parking were special in downtown JAX on October 1, 2021 because of the addition of a Jazz Festival, yet the police kept everything moving smoothly. Entry into the Times Union was quick with numerous doors being used to execute security checking. Will-call ticket pick up and concession stands were also quick and courteous.

HAMILTON is so worth getting out, getting dressed up, wearing a mask, as you enjoy this popular show. HAMILTON has amazing period costumes, spectacular dancing, a wonderful revolving stage, and whimsical hip-hop and spoken word music (some who were familiar with the soundtrack sang quietly along) and lines. If you are unfamiliar with the storyline, have no fear; it’s very easy to follow and your program will also help with some of the characters.

'HAMILTON Lottery' announced in JAX

Producer Jeffery Seller and FSCJ Artist Series Broadway In Jacksonville announce a digital lottery for HAMILTON tickets will begin in conjunction with the show’s first performance (Sept. 29) in Jacksonville at the Times-Union Center as a special to the FSCJ Artist Series 55th anniversary season. A limited number of tickets will be available for every performance for $10 each. The lottery will first open at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17 and will close at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23 for tickets to performances Sept. 29 – Oct. 6 (HAMILTON performances begin on a Wednesday). Subsequent digital lotteries will begin on each Friday and close the following Thursday for the upcoming week’s performances.

HOW TO ENTER:

FSCJ Artist Series Broadway in Jacksonville 55th Anniversary Season has rescheduled their Performance Dates.

The FSCJ Artist Series has exciting news! Broadway is coming back to the Times-Union Center and it was worth the wait. They have been able to reschedule four of the five Broadway season package shows originally announced for the current season.

“Fiddler on the Roof”, “Come From Away”, “Dear Evan Hansen”, “Cats”, and a season special “Hamilton”, are rescheduled to new dates and are joined by the long-awaited show “Anastasia”. They hope to reschedule “Mean Girls” for a future season.

FSCJ Artist Series thanks you for your patience and they’re excited to welcome you back this September for this incredible season of shows.

Seussical the Musical returns to the Alhambra

The first time Ms. “V” saw this performance of “Seussical the Musical” at the Alhambra was during June 24 – Aug.2, 2015. When the Alhambra Theatre & Dining last mounted the lovable family-friendly summer show in 2017, “Seussical the Musical”, it sold every ticket. With the summer heat descending upon the north Florida venues and COVID rules lifting a little a bit, the Alhambra is preparing for another sell out run – and just in time for some much-needed summer fun. The Alhambra will open its Annual Family Summer Show on June 17.

One of the most performed shows in America, Seussical the Musical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony award winning writers, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

‘HAMILTON’ tickets go on sale in JAX

Due to the popularity of the event, this show is being posted early on “Around Town With Ms. “V” so that patrons may purchase tickets and guarantee their seats. COVID protocol may change by the time this event is scheduled to take place.

Producer Jeffrey Seller and FSCJ ARTIST SERIES BROADWAY IN JACKSONVILLE announce today that single tickets for HAMILTON will go on sale to the public on Thursday, June 3 at 10 a.m. (ET) at fscjartistseries.org. Tickets for HAMILTON will be available for purchase online only. Tickets will be available for performances September 29 through October 17, 2021.

There is a maximum purchase limit of eight (8) tickets per household/account for the engagement. Ticket prices will range from $71 to $217 with a select number of $369 to $419 premium seats available for some performances. Additional fees will apply to purchases.

There will be a lottery for forty (40) $10 seats for all performances. Details will be announced closer to the engagement.

‘Hamilton’ rescheduled for 2021 at the Times Union Ctr.

FSCJ Artist Series Broadway in Jacksonville engagement of "HAMILTON" has been rescheduled and will now play the Times-Union Center August 31 – September 12, 2021.

Emails have been sent to ticket holders with information on which new performance replaces the cancelled performance.  If a ticket holder hasn’t received the email, a form is available here: bit.ly/HamiltonTicketOptions.

Those that purchased through a 3rd party will need to contact their point of purchase directly for options.  Ticket holders have until May 18 to choose from the following options:

Keep the seats they already have for their rescheduled performance indicated on the chart on fscjartistseries.org.  New tickets will be issued closer to the ticket holder’s rescheduled performance.  Please Note: If no response is received by May 18, FSCJ Artist Series will assume the ticket holder prefers to hold their seats and attend the show on the rescheduled date.

‘Hamilton’ postponement in Jacksonville

Below is a notification of the cancellation of the show “Hamilton”:

At the direction of Mayor Lenny Curry, “Hamilton”, scheduled for March 17-29, 2020, will be postponed out of an abundance of caution, due to the growing concern over COVID-19.  IF YOU ARE A TICKET HOLDER, PLEASE HOLD ONTO YOUR TICKETS AS WE WORK TO BRING HAMILTON BACK TO JACKSONVILLE.  We will be in touch as soon as possible with more information on the status of this event.  We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves to ensure the health and well-being of our audience, staff, cast and crew before anything else.  All performances for the remaining shows in the FSCJ Artist Series Broadway in Jacksonville season are expected to go on as scheduled.  Should anything change, we will send an update to all impacted ticket holders.  We look forward to welcoming you back into a clean and safe gathering space for our community to enjoy the shared experience of seeing stories unfold live on stage.  Thank you for your patience and your continued support.

Hamilton Lottery Tickets available for JAX shows

Producer Jeffrey Seller and the FSCJ Artist Series announce a digital lottery for “HAMILTON” tickets will begin in conjunction with the show’s first performance (March 17) in Jacksonville at the Times-Union Center. (40) tickets will be sold for every performance for $10 each.  The digital lottery will open at 11 AM on March 15 for tickets to the Tuesday, March 17 performance.  Subsequent digital lotteries will begin two days prior to each performance.

Tickets for HAMILTON are currently on sale.  Patrons are advised to check the official HAMILTON channels and fscjartistseries.org for late release seats which may become available at short notice.

‘Bandstand’ is a must-see if you are in the area

Orchestra Pit for 'Bandstand'

The Tony Award^®-winning Broadway musical, “Bandstand”, is in Jacksonville, FL for only seven more performances at the Times Union Center Moran Theater.  If you know anything about life after the military, or the comradery of soldiers who share their talents, heartaches, promises, mental demons, injustice and dreams of a future life and how that life use to be; then you need to see this heartwarming musical.  The storyline is easy to follow and might transport you back to the Viet-Nam era, or any post-wartimes experiences that you might have endured.

The choreography is wonderful and the songs throughout the musical are very well done.  Kudos to the marvelous singing done by Jennifer Elizabeth Smith (what a powerful voice).  Accolades to the orchestra in the pit: (Miles Plant, Brian Victor, Michael Brinzer, Ross Kratter and Brian Ganch); and to the cast/band members on stage (Rob Clove, Benjamin Powell, Scott Bell, Louis Jannuzzi III, Zack Zaromatidis & Jonmichael Tarleton) who played along.  The show moves along smoothly and is well worth your investment of time and money.

Broadway Musical “Waitress” comes to Orange Park

Come to the Thrasher-Horne Center and meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as “The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie” and “Betrayed By My Eggs Pie.” When a baking contest in a nearby county — and a satisfying encounter with someone new — show Jenna a chance at a fresh start, she must find the courage to seize it.  Change is on the menu, as long as Jenna can write her own perfectly personal recipe for happiness.

PBTS seeking local talent for next show

AUDITIONS

Players By The Sea is only one month away from casting their next musical, “Spring Awakening”. On February 8th and 9th, the theatre will welcome local talent to audition for the award-winning musical that takes the Mainstage from April 24 - May 16. Auditions will be held at Players by the Sea Theatre at 106 6th Street North.

Director Bradley Akers, who was last seen at Players directing The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, shared his thoughts on how to have a successful audition: “I WANT TO CAST YOU!  So, be yourself.  Be authentic.  Be bold. Be brave.”

Auditions for Girls and Boys will take place on Saturday, February 8th.  Registration will run from 11 - 11:55 a.m. with auditions beginning promptly at 12 noon.  Auditions for Adult Man and Adult Woman will take place on Sunday, February 9th starting at 6 p.m.  Registration will run from 5:30 - 5:55 p.m.  Some actors from Saturday may be asked to read with those auditioning for the adult roles.

Actors auditioning for Girls and Boys are asked to prepare 16 – 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of any of the music found in Spring Awakening.  They should bring sheet music to the audition. An accompanist will be provided. No acapella auditions or recorded accompaniment will be permitted. They should dress for a dance audition and be prepared for cold readings from the script.

Actors auditioning for Adult roles do not need to be prepared to sing or dance.  They will only be asked to read from the script.  All actors should also bring a headshot, resume, and list of conflicts from February 8th through May 16.  The rehearsal schedule will be created based on cast-member conflicts.  Due to mature subject matter, only actors 16 and older will be considered for casting.

“The audition process is not only designed to align the casting dynamic of the show, but it’s also a way for us to interview each other and make sure it’s a right fit.  I’m looking for honesty, bravery, resilience, and safety in your choices (in your vocals, your movement, and your interpretations),” said Akers.
