Since the MDA Show of Strength Telethon is approaching (Sunday,
August 31, 2014 on ABC), this columnist has a challenge for you. It’s called, “The MDA/ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with a Twist”. Take a look at Ms. “V”s video, and see if you
are willing to accept yet another #IceBucketChallenge
that will pay off in dividends.
To keep these donation numbers growing, you are
being asked to contribute money to the “Rescue & Firefighter’s Campaign” when you see them along the roadsides collecting money across the
country with their fireman boots. If
this is not happening on Labor Day in your area, take a little time and call-in
your pledge to MDA
Fighting Muscle Disease on Labor Day and let’s keep the fund growing.

So many people are doing the #ALSIceBucketChallenge and don’t know why they’re doing it or what it’s all about. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig Disease is a degenerative ailment that affects the
patient’s nerves and muscles while rendering them in a state of paralysis. A few years after the diagnosis, the person
usually dies from the disease.
On the sixth of August, 2014, Pete Frates started a movement that has gone viral and is
spreading awareness of the disease. He
put out a challenge, to those on social media, to spread the word concerning
ALS. The videos have really skyrocketed
and as of August 24, 2014, the association has collected $70.2 million dollars.
Typically, the Jerry
Lewis Telethon for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association raises millions of dollars, but since Jerry is not
able and his co-host Ed McMahon passed away in 2009, the telethon has lost most
of its appeal, and is only televised for a couple of hours instead of a couple
of days.
