Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens has showers of events for April 2018

It’s Springtime in Florida, and even if the temperatures are fluctuating from cool to cooler and back to warm, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is bursting with creativity, growth, reconstruction, entertainment, beauty, shopping, history and much more.  They are awaiting your visit, so come celebrate new life in the gardens and in the museum.

Florida Blue Free Tuesday - Each Tuesday Evening from 4 to 9 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  Every Tuesday, enjoy free admission to the Cummer Museum and its historic Gardens, thanks to the generous support of Florida Blue. Guests can enjoy free admission to the Galleries. Each Tuesday evening, the Cummer Café is open for Tapas Tuesday sponsored by VyStar Credit Union.

Tap into Tapas Tuesday sponsored by VyStar Credit Union at the Cummer Café. Every Tuesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the Cummer Café patio, take in the sunset while listening to local musicians with beer, wine, or artfully inspired tapas for sale at the Café. Cummer Amelia Garden Walk 2018: Porches, Pots, And Patios - Fri, Apr 6 | 1 to 4 p.m.  Members $20, Non-Members $30.  Omni Amelia Island Plantation.  Registration recommended.  Join Cummer Amelia for the 4th Annual Garden Walk at the Amelia Island Plantation.  This event supports school tours for Nassau County third- and fourth-grade students to visit the Cummer Museum, which both enriches their curriculum and broadens their worldview. The event includes a walking tour of four beautiful home gardens, each with its own unique charm. Art demonstrations, live music, and refreshments will be provided along the tour route. Weaver First Saturday Free For All - Sat, Apr 7 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Free | No registration required.  The first Saturday of each month at the Cummer Museum is FREE FOR ALL, thanks to the generous support of J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver. Bank Of America And Merrill Lynch Museums On Us - Sun, Apr 8 from Noon to 4 p.m. | Free to cardholders | No registration required.  The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens offers free admission on the first Sunday of the first full weekend of the month to all Bank of America or Merrill Lynch cardholders through the Museums On Us program. Art Of Cooking Series: Homegrown - Thu, Apr 12 | 6 to 8 p.m. | Members $30, Non-Members $40 | Registration required.  Ever wondered how to take freshly harvested garden fare from nature to your dinner table? Saturiwa Trading Company and Chef Jamey Evoniuk with the Cummer Café, the Chef’s Garden Catering & Events, and the Candy Apple Café & Cocktails, team up to share recipes, small bites, and preparation techniques that showcase the freshness of locally sourced produce. This will be paired with a cocktail and explanation into the methods of its production by Jacksonville-based Manifest Distillery founder, David Cohen. Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program - Sat, Apr 14 | 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Members and Non-Members $30 | Registration required.  Join the Museum as part of the Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program. Make the Cummer Gardens the first stop on your tour of a number of private gardens in the Riverside neighborhood. Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand in each garden throughout the day to answer your questions. Art Fundamentals: Acrylic Painting - Wed, Apr 18 through May 30 (except May 2) | 1 to 4:30 p.m. | Members $180, Non-Members $210 | Registration required.  Instructor Allison Watson introduces painting to beginning students and strengthens the skills of intermediate painters. Learn composition for landscape and still life, color theory, and techniques in acrylic. Participants may sign up for multiple sessions. Supplies are not included. Ages 18 and up. In the studio children will use flowers to create a painting with unique textures. Art for Tots is funded through the generosity of the Chartrand Family Foundation. Entry is through Art Connections. Smart Phone Photography: Adult Workshop - Thu, Apr 19 | 6 to 8 p.m. | Members $30, Non-Members $40 | Registration required.  Need tips on how to take a better selfie or capture that incredible sunset? Local Photographer Jessica VanTassel of Stout Studios will lead a hands-on workshop where participants learn the secrets to taking great photos with their smart phones. Art Adventures: Thomas Hart Benton - Sat, Apr 21 | 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. | Members $10, Non-Members $15 | Registration required. Ages 6 through 12.  Join them on the third Saturday of each month for studio classes. In this class students will view important paintings and drawings by Thomas Hart Benton that capture the heroic moments of respite aboard submarines and around shipyards during World War II. Cummer Amelia An Afternoon Of Art: 20th-Century Women Artists - Mon, Apr 23 | 2 to 4 p.m. | Free | Registration required.  Fernandina Beach Branch Library.  Cummer Amelia partners with the Fernandina Beach Branch Library for a lecture series with a presentation on “Women Artists from the Renaissance to Abstract Expressionism” by Cummer Museum Director of Education Lynn Norris. The last lecture in this series addresses the 20th century, when art education became available to women. For major artists from Georgia O’ Keeffe to Helen Frankenthaler, a new question emerged: “to be an artist or a woman artist?” Seating is limited.
