In a golf town that just can’t seem to get enough of the action, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining opens a
comedy new to its iconic stage, Ken Ludwig’s “The Fox on the Fairway.” Opening
week coincides with the “Players
Championship”, the PGA TOUR’s premier event just minutes down the road in
Ponte Vedra Beach (FL), adding to the area’s thirst for all things golf.
About “A Fox on the Fairway”: Bingham, president of the Quail Valley Country Club, is in a difficult position when he discovers the golfer he chose to represent his club in the city championship has switched sides, having been recruited by his counterpart and opponent. The huge bet Bingham had foolishly wagered is now likely to be lost. He recruits the skillful Justin and then discovers his newly-hired hand is in love with Louise, the waitress at the club, causing his ringer much distraction. When Justin learns that Louise has lost the engagement ring he gave her he comes unglued. The game resumes the next day, but Justin loses the lead, and, upset, takes an unfortunate swing, breaking his arm. To further complicate the matter for Bingham, his wife catches him much too close to Pamela, the Club vice-president. Comedy ensues as Bingham tries to find a replacement for Justin to win the game, win the wager, and get his life in order.
A comic romp written by the Tony Award-winning author of “Lend Me a Tenor,” “A Fox on the Fairway” gives golfers and non-golfers an interesting slice of country club life. The menu features a number of country club favorites, including Executive Chef Dejuan Roy’s fabled prime rib.
