A musical of love, forgiveness & redemption will be at Players by the Sea in beautiful Jacksonville Beach, FL. Players by the Sea will open its 53rd continual season of programming with the inspirational and uplifting musical The Color Purple, based on the 1982 Novel of the same name by Alice Walker. The Color Purple will be onstage from September 21 - October 14 on the PBTS mainstage for 13 performances.
The Color Purple is the epic tale of 40-years in the life of a family in rural Georgia. At its center is fourteen-year-old Celie. When Celie is forced by her abusive father to marry a cruel farmer, called “Mister,” she is separated from all that she loves. Ultimately, Celie conquers the odds to find her voice and her strength, coming into her own. Featuring a vibrant score, The Color Purple, celebrates the healing power of love and the importance of a zest for life.
The Color Purple is directed by Jereme Raickett, with music direction by Meachum Clarke and choreography by Sherrod Brown. The cast is comprised of more than 20 diverse local volunteer actors, singers and dancers.

There is plenty of free parking in front of and surrounding the theatre. When patrons enter the theatre, they are welcome to enjoy beer, wine, soda or a specialty cocktail, in addition to snacks. The theatre seats 150 patrons comfortably - there are only 6 rows of seating so there is no bad seat in the house! Be sure to get to the theatre around 7:30 for an 8:00 show or 1:30 for a 2:00 show to secure parking and to grab the best available seat, since seating is on a first come first served basis. After the performance, patrons are welcome to meet and greet with the cast members from the show.

TICKETS: Regular tickets are $28, with a discounted price of $25 for Senior/Student/Military. The theatre offers half price tickets to students on Thursday nights. Showtimes are 8 p.m. from Thursday - Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. Advance ticket purchases are strongly encouraged.
