Thanking God that JAX City Councilwoman & CEO of Clara White Mission Ju’Coby Pitman, is out of the hospital and continues to recuperate at home.
From the office of Clara
White Mission:
“As August arrives, we begin to awaken the beds that have been under cover this
summer. We remove the tarp covers and start seeding. First up is a fall round
of tomatoes, peppers, squash and cucumbers. These plants are heat tolerant and
frost sensitive, so we recommend starting them in August for a fall harvest. We
recommend Bronze Torch grape tomatoes and Sun-gold cherry tomatoes for the
fall.
We are still accepting volunteers on the farm on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays
from 8 a.m.–12 p.m.
Volunteers make a big difference and we are always thankful for your support.
Our monthly Moncrief Creek clean-up will be Saturday, Aug 28th at 9 a.m. In
July, we partnered up with the St. Johns River Keeper to continue cleaning up
trash. In August, we plan to focus on clearing branches, debris and
establishing pathways to the creek. There’s still a lot to be done, come join
us!
Our market, workshops and other programming will resume in October and we
cannot wait to see you all on the farm. The Market will be closed July, August,
and September. We will resume October 2, 2021 through June 25, 2022! Our
weekly market is on hiatus over the summer. We will be donating what we grow to
the Clara White Mission and our beekeeping partner, Mika from The Herban Bee
will be selling some of our crops at the DIG Local Farmers Market on Penman Rd.
along with her honey and soap products!
We are excited to begin selling our produce at our farmers market next year in
our new space! The foundation for the Quonsett Hut is going down this month and
should be erected very soon! We are thrilled to be able to invite more farmers
to be part of the market and get more fresh, healthy produce out into our
community!
