White Harvest Farms during Nov. 2021

Nothing can keep a good woman down, and that includes Clara White Mission’s CEO & Councilwoman, Ju’Coby Pitman. Ms. Pitman is back at her duties after a lengthy hospitalization from COVID-19. We thank God that she has returned to her duties with helping the residents of Jacksonville, Florida.

From the Clara White Mission/White Harvest Farms:
“As we make our way through November, we are starting to look around the farm and see all the hard work paying off. September and October are a mad dash to fill our beds with fall season crops: collards, kale, broccoli, and for the very overachieving (and sort of crazy), a second round of warm season cherry tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. But now with our planting beds mostly full and producing, we are starting to slow down and give thanks.

We say thank you to Clara and Eartha White for showing us that one person can make a difference. Thank you to our fearlessly leaders at the Clara White Mission. And thank you for the opportunity for us all to work this land together. We are thankful and we are hopeful for the future of our growing local food community and the fertility of our land. Join us this season on the farm for volunteering, classes and special events.”

“The community garden at White Harvest Farms is on the move! In our continued commitment to resolving food desert issues in north Jacksonville, we have partnered with The Herban Bee to teach and assist residents in growing their own organic produce. This program is free to participants and establishes what we think could be a national model for resolving food security issues. A model in which established farms intentionally assist others who may have the interest in farming but do not have the resources required to be successful. We have designated a small portion of our farm to assist these individuals and help them successfully grow their own organic produce. We are experiencing outstanding support from the community and have had over 30 people participate thus far. Last week we harvested kale and performed a cooking demonstration to assist participants in creating healthy meal choices for their families. On Wednesday this week we are scheduled to harvest our first collards just in time for the holidays. We meet every other Saturday so come on out and join us. It's not too late!”
