Community theatre at the beaches brings a holiday
classic to life on stage. “A Christmas Carol” starts this Friday, December 6th at
Players by the Sea Theatre. After months
of rehearsal, the cast & crew (about 40 talented artists) are ready to
share their magical work with the JAX community.
A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens and adapted by Romulus
Linney tell the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his journey from an embittered,
ungenerous creature into a giving, caring human being at the hands of three
spirits, who, one Christmas Eve, show him what life means. This richly textured play brings the full
spirit of the book, as well as those of Christmases Past, Present and Yet To
Come, to life on the stage.
Kenggy Bravo, who plays Mrs. Fezziwig in the show said, “I think people
should buy tickets to see A Christmas Carol because it’s going to appeal to
everyone. It’s such a warm show to watch during the holidays, and what better
way to get into the spirit than to remember what Christmas truly means?”
Watch in awe as a diverse group of Jacksonville talent from different
backgrounds and of young and old ages, come together to make holiday magic on
stage at Players by the Sea.

Producers Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music
Publishing announce that the Tony & Grammy Award-winning Broadway hit Beautiful—The Carole King Musical, about the early
life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter, will
make its Jacksonville return at the Times-Union Center for one performance only! Unlike the eight performances in 2018, you
only have one chance to see this wonderful show right before Christmas.
“Carole King might be a native New Yorker, but her story of struggle and
triumph is as universal as they come – and her music is loved the world over,” producer
Paul Blake said. “I am thrilled that Beautiful
continues to delight and entertain audiences around the globe, in England,
Japan and Australia and that we are entering our fifth amazing year of touring
the U.S. We are so grateful that over five million audience members have been
entertained by our celebration of Carole's story and her timeless music.”
On October 27, 2019, the Broadway production of Beautiful – The
Carole King Musical will end its smash-hit, record-breaking run after
nearly six years. By the time the
production takes its final bow, it will have played 60 preview and 2,418
regular performances, surpassing the original production of Annie and
the landmark 1998 revival of Cabaret to become the 27th longest-running
musical (and the second longest running “bio-musical”) in Broadway history. On Broadway, the show has been seen by almost
2,200,000 audience members (including, quite famously, King herself) and is the
longest-running and highest-grossing show in the history of the Stephen
Sondheim Theatre.
Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol
Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as
a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her
dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’
roll. But it wasn’t until her personal
life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring
true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit
songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow
writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the
most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful
music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Beautiful features a stunning
array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry
Mann/Cynthia Weil, including: “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You
Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title
song.
Sony Pictures has announced that the film adaptation of Beautiful will
be produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Paul Blake. If you would like to see if the show is
coming to a theatre near you - check HERE.

This should be a tried-and-true traditional entertainment
event for the holidays. The Nebraska
Theatre Caravan’s national tour returns to Jacksonville with its delightful
stage production of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic “A Christmas Carol”. This fully staged musical version of Charles
Dickens’ classic tale has become a Yuletide tradition. The story was
adapted for the stage by Charles Jones. The
Caravan has been touring this adaptation of A Christmas Carol since
1979. It is one of the most widely
viewed productions of the Dickens tale in the nation, annually performing for
more than 100,000 people in more than 60 cities across the country.
A Christmas Carol features a spirited ensemble of
23 performers who bring Dickens’ fable of redemption to life on a magical set
created by noted designer James Othuse. A full array of timeless carols such as: “God
Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away In a Manager” and “Here We Come
A-Wassailing” are interwoven within the classic story of a tight-fisted,
middle-class merchant Ebenezer Scrooge and all the beloved characters from
Dickens' 1843 novel.
The heartwarming tale depicts Scrooge, whose values are focused exclusively on
profit and his conflicts with the struggling Cratchit family, whose tragic
problems typified the working class during the Industrial Revolution in
Victorian England. The touching climax
is based on Dickens' belief that the ills of a greedy world can be healed by
brotherhood and unselfishness.
The colorful scenery and elaborate costumes faithfully recreate the Victorian
period. Exceptional voices, lively dancing and dazzling special effects
like the mysterious spinning bed combine to create a spectacular holiday treat
for the entire family.

Critically acclaimed and multi-award winning electronic violinist Lindsey
Stirling announced today her upcoming “Warmer in the Winter Christmas Tour 2019” in support of her highly
successful holiday albums Warmer in the Winter and Warmer in the Winter: Deluxe
Edition. The multi-city trek
will include a number of major cities across Canada and the US including:
Ontario, Phoenix, Charlotte, Newark, Greenville, Orlando, Milwaukee, San Jose,
and a stop in Jacksonville, FL at the Times-Union Center for the Performing
Arts- Moran Theater.
This blogger has had the pleasure of seeing & hearing Lindsey perform in
JAX with Celtic Woman and she is marvelous.
It will be Lindsey’s third Christmas tour to date, and she will bring
back her successful holiday show featuring elaborate festive themes as well
Stirling’s signature brand of dance routines and on-stage visuals. This year’s set list will feature an array of
holiday classics including: “I Wonder as I Wander,” “Santa Baby,” and “Dance
of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” as well as some of Stirling’s original
tracks including: “Christmas C’mon” and “Warmer in the Winter.”
About Lindsey Stirling: Lindsey Stirling remains fearless enough
to always dream big. In the near decade since the release of her 2012
self-titled debut, the electronic violinist, dancer, and artist has quietly and
humbly become one of the 21st century’s most innovative stars. With the release of her highly anticipated new
single "Underground" out June 21st, and an album to follow
this fall, the music impresario is once again set to deliver her groundbreaking
vision of cinematic violin-driven electronic music. Her
literary debut The Only Pirate at the Party—co-written with her sister
Brook S. Passey—became a New York Times Bestseller.
Lindsey’s third-studio album Brave Enough, debuted at #5 on Billboard’s
Top 200 Album Chart, went on to score the #1 spot on Billboard’s year-end Top
Dance/Electronic Album list and earned Stirling a 2017 Billboard Music Award
for Top Dance/Electronic Album. In 2017,
Lindsey was the runner-up on Season 25 of ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the
Stars” with her partner Mark Ballas. That same year, she released her first ever
holiday album titled Warmer in the Winter, featuring classic holiday and
original songs. The album went on to
become the #1 new Christmas release of 2017, ahead of pop music heavyweights
Gwen Stefani and Sia, and was the best-selling new holiday album of that year
with over 40 million spins on Pandora.
A revamped version, Warmer in the Winter: Deluxe Edition, released in
2018, and held a firm top 10 spot on the Holiday Albums chart for an impressive
8-weeks straight. In the summer of 2018,
Stirling rocked fans on her highly praised co-heading North American tour with
rock heavyweights, Evanescence. Becoming
one of Live Nation’s 10 best-selling amphitheater tours of last summer, both
acts delivered high energy sets accompanied by a full orchestra. Stirling is the model of a modern independent
recording artist, with a symbiotic relationship with her fans. A motivational speaker in her spare time,
Stirling uses her own story to show teenagers that you have to have confidence
in the very thing that makes you unique – then wait for the world to catch up.
