The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens announced
today that its George and Kathleen Gibbs Director and Chief Executive Officer,
Adam M. Levine, Ph.D., will be departing the institution to return to the
Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) in Toledo, Ohio. Levine will fill the role of the Edward
Drummond and Florence Scott Libbey Director of TMA. He will begin his new post in May of 2020.
Levine began his work with the Cummer Museum in October 2018 and fully assumed
the role as Director and CEO in January 2019. Prior to relocating to
Jacksonville to accept the position with the Cummer Museum, he held a variety
of senior positions at TMA since 2013, most recently as deputy director and
curator of Ancient art.
“I would be remiss if I didn’t admit that we are disappointed to lose Adam
but the passion, excitement and growth at the Cummer of late is a result of the
community’s desire for accessible, high quality cultural experiences and our
institution’s ability to respond to that demand. This commitment to Jacksonville will not
diminish,” said Pam D. Paul, chair of the Cummer Museum’s Board of
Trustees. “The Cummer is strongly
positioned and committed to sustaining excellence throughout our galleries,
gardens, exhibitions and programming, and we will continue to honor our long
history of engaging and inspiring our community. We have an incredible staff and highly engaged
and committed board along with strong community support. Just as we did before,
our board will work tirelessly to recruit the best and brightest new director
and CEO.”
Over the past 18 months, the Cummer Museum, under Levine’s leadership,
increased attendance and membership year-over-year by 20 percent, expanded
educational offerings, developed an ambitious strategic plan, reconstructed its
hurricane-damaged gardens and initiated new programs that increased
accessibility to the museum for a range of audiences.
“It has been a privilege to lead the Cummer Museum and to partner with its
inspiring board, donors, staff and volunteers on a variety of dynamic
initiatives that moved the institution forward. I have loved my time in this
community and am grateful for the warmth with which I was received and for the
embrace of the Cummer Museum’s vision,” said Levine.
Levine’s last day at the Cummer Museum will be April 24, 2020.
The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens
today announced that it has partnered with Duval County Public Schools to
provide free Family-level memberships to 5,800 fifth-grade students enrolled in
the district’s Title 1 elementary schools, following the successful completion
of the Family 2 Family Membership Match — the Museum’s signature access
initiative for 2019.
From April through September, the Museum adopted a buy-one-give-one model for
all new or renewing Family memberships. Funds to support the initiative were
secured through a combination of memberships, private donations and generous
support from Florida Blue.
Vouchers for the free memberships will be distributed by principals and
teachers at the following district schools by Friday, Dec. 6: Abess Park

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens today
announced the launch of the Family 2 Family Membership Match promotion. For every $100 donated to the Museum as part
of a membership purchase or upgrade through September 30, the Museum will give
a Museum membership to the family of a current fourth-grade Duval County Public
Schools (DCPS) student.
The promotion builds upon the Museum’s long-standing partnership with DCPS. During the 2018-2019 school year, thousands of
DCPS students visited the Museum or participated in art education experiences
through outreach programs, including more than 800 fourth-grade students who
were provided a free tour of the Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman
exhibition.
The Museum’s goal for the Family 2 Family promotion is to secure 5,500
memberships to provide all current fourth-grade students with a free
Family-level membership. Adam Levine,
the Cummer Museum’s George W. and Kathleen I. Gibbs Director & Chief Executive Officer,
sees the promotion as a way to ensure these students can come back to the Museum
with their families without restriction, whether to experience a special
exhibition or enjoy playing in the reconstructed gardens.
“Visiting art museums at a young age is
an important and valuable educational experience, but the impact of art museums
on learning and development increases substantially when people come back,”
said Levine. “When you remove barriers to entry, people
visit museums. Family 2 Family is about
this community coming together to provide access to the highest quality arts,
gardens and programming. I can think of
no fuller embodiment of Ninah Cummer’s vision to create ‘a center of beauty and
culture for all of Jacksonville.’”
The Museum will work with DCPS to distribute vouchers for free Museum
memberships to students and their families during the 2019-2020 school year. “We are
so thankful to community partners like the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens
that play such a vital role in enriching the educational and cultural
experiences of our students,” said Dr. Diana Greene, superintendent of
Duval County Public Schools. “Through the Cummer’s Family 2 Family
promotion, learning in art, history, and social studies will be brought to life
for our students and their families as they enjoy even greater access to the
museum.”
Family-level memberships cost $100 and include free admission for a year for
two adults and children or grandchildren under the age of 18. Additional benefits include exclusive

Jacksonville Florida is proud to have Mr. Adam M. Levine as the Director and CEO of the Cummer
Museum of Art & Gardens, as he welcomed guests to a wonderful evening (on Thursday,
January 10, 2019) at the “Artful Umami Japanese Dinner Party”. The event featured delicious oriental foods, Japanese
entertainment, festive displays and an open bar. The servers, security and staff gave
attendees the VIP treatment throughout the evening. Guests were able to visit the many, many
pieces of artwork throughout the building and the evening.
No, Mr. Levine is not the same Adam Levine who will be performing at Superbowl LIII halftime show
with the group Maroon 5, with rapper,
actor and entrepreneur - Big Boi and with rapper Travis Scott; but the newly
appointed Adam M. Levine is in place to bring more wonderful events, exhibits,
cultures and history to the Cummer Museum.
Hurricane Irma tried to destroy the lush beautiful Cummer Gardens, nonetheless,
through generous ongoing donations, and expert restoration - the
museum is flourishing and is in expectation of your next visit.
