Producers Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music
Publishing announce that the Tony & Grammy Award-winning Broadway hit Beautiful—The Carole King Musical, about the early
life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter, will
make its Jacksonville return at the Times-Union Center for one performance only! Unlike the eight performances in 2018, you
only have one chance to see this wonderful show right before Christmas.
“Carole King might be a native New Yorker, but her story of struggle and
triumph is as universal as they come – and her music is loved the world over,” producer
Paul Blake said. “I am thrilled that Beautiful
continues to delight and entertain audiences around the globe, in England,
Japan and Australia and that we are entering our fifth amazing year of touring
the U.S. We are so grateful that over five million audience members have been
entertained by our celebration of Carole's story and her timeless music.”
On October 27, 2019, the Broadway production of Beautiful – The
Carole King Musical will end its smash-hit, record-breaking run after
nearly six years. By the time the
production takes its final bow, it will have played 60 preview and 2,418
regular performances, surpassing the original production of Annie and
the landmark 1998 revival of Cabaret to become the 27th longest-running
musical (and the second longest running “bio-musical”) in Broadway history. On Broadway, the show has been seen by almost
2,200,000 audience members (including, quite famously, King herself) and is the
longest-running and highest-grossing show in the history of the Stephen
Sondheim Theatre.
Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol
Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as
a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her
dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’
roll. But it wasn’t until her personal
life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring
true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit
songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow
writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the
most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful
music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Beautiful features a stunning
array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry
Mann/Cynthia Weil, including: “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You
Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title
song.
Sony Pictures has announced that the film adaptation of Beautiful will
be produced by Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, and Paul Blake. If you would like to see if the show is
coming to a theatre near you - check HERE.

It’s not just the music, but how the story of Carole King unfolds that will bring
understanding of some of the songs that Carole and her husband (Gerry Goffin) collaborated
together, to make beautiful music and an extraordinary life. If you’ve seen Jersey
Boys or Motown the Musical, then “Beautiful—The
Carole King Musical” (the early life and career of Carol Klein), is a ‘must
see’ to add to your live-onstage repertoire.
You may only have heard her music, but you didn’t know her story.
There are so many familiar songs in the show, that one might think
that the singers penned the music and lyrics themselves, nonetheless, it was
the collaboration of Carole King/Gerry Goffin, and that of Cynthia Weil/Barry
Mann. The music is so good that you will
actually be singing along with the actors on stage. And don’t take your eyes off the actors,
Little Eva (the one-time baby sitter of the King/Goffin baby girl) does a quick-change
right is plain sight while singing “Locomotion”. Yes, it happened earlier in the show too, but
I don’t recall the song or the group - it was done that smoothly.
Music was contributed to groups and solo artists as: Neil Sedaka, The Drifters,
Cynthia Weil, Gerry Goffin, Little Eva, The Righteous Brothers, The Chiffons,
The Shirelles, Carole King and many more; and the vocals of the tribute artists
is as great as the real person.
A wonderful 13-piece orchestra has added to the superb vocals of the 18 actors
on stage. The elaborate stage props move
methodically in a flawless transition from one scene to another. After a 2 1/4 hour delivery, and a fifteen-minute
intermission, you will leave wanting
more.

she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.
Chicago is the longest running American musical and shows no sign of ever
slowing down! Chicago is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best
Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. Set
amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie
Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side
lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she
dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring
Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a
barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be
ripped from today’s tabloids. The story
is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the
concept of the “celebrity criminal.” Chicago is produced by the Tony Award
producing team Barry and Fran Weissler with a legendary book by Fred Ebb and
Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
