‘The Capitol Steps’ generate a new view on politics

Are you tired of all the mud-slinging and political hoopla that’s in the media?  Take a break from all the name-calling of one candidate to another and come laugh at them through the political satire of “The Capitol Steps”.  Right off the top, kudos to Howard Breitbart who continually played all the piano music that the actors needed during the performance.  There are only five qualified actors who mimic many of the political persons you might have recalled in the news recently and in times gone by, yet they do a magnificent job.

Corey Harris may be the newest member to the group, but his impersonation of President Obama is right on point.  Nancy Dolliver, Brad VanGrank Jamie Zemarel, and Tracey Stephens recreate the many personalities with quick costume changes and witty lines.  You won’t be bored especially when you hear the tune from “The Young and the Restless” played in the background of one of the skits.

Some of the dignitaries who you will encounter during the evening will be: President Barack Obama (catching a Pokémon on stage), Nancy Pelosi, Vice Pres. Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Sarah Palin, former president Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine, Vladimir Putin (bare chest and all), Governor Chris Christie, Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, French President François Hollande, former president George W. Bush, former vice president Al Gore, commentator Ann Coulter, singer Bob Dylan, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. Harry Reid, Supreme Court justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Ginsburg: just to name a few.

Don’t forget to stop by the promotion table, after the show, and purchase some of the memorable recordings that are available from past and present shows.  You might also remember to get a written copy of “Lirty Dies” and try to pronounce some of the flip-flopped spoken words.

‘The Capitol Steps’ bring political satire to JAX for eight shows

The Capitol Steps come to JAX
If you’re a little sick and tired of all the political bashing that is broadcast on TV and in social media, then it’s time to laugh until you cry.  Jacksonville Florida’s Wilson Center for the Arts will host eight power-packed, politically correct shows from September 20 – 25, 2016 from “The Capitol Steps”.  Don’t allow Hilary or Donald to get you down and out.  Come get your laugh on.

The Capitol Steps” were born in December, 1981 when some staffers for Senator Charles Percy were planning entertainment for a Christmas party. Ronald Reagan was President when the Steps began, so co-founders Elaina Newport, Bill Strauss and Jim Aidala figured that if entertainers could become politicians, then politicians could become entertainers! Their first idea was to stage a nativity play, but in the whole Congress they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin!  So, they decided to dig into the headlines of the day, and created song parodies & skits which conveyed a special brand of satirical humor that was as popular in Jacksonville Florida as it was on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded over 35 albums, including their latest, What to Expect When You're Electing. They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard twice a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.

Quotes about The Capitol Steps: “The Capitol Steps are what Washington would be like if everyone were funnier and could sing.” - P.J. O’Rourke, humorist.  “They’re the best. There’s no one like them, no one in their league.” - Larry King, CNN.  “The troupe has become a favorite on the Washington social circuit.  Its political satire brings chuckles...rave reviews...guffaws...and bipartisan grins all around.  The satire hits the mark.” - The Wall Street Journal.

You can follow us on Facebook, on Twitter, and on YouTube and you’ll want to get tickets for the live onstage production from the Capitol Steps troupe.
