In 1957 The Kingston Trio emerged from San
Francisco’s North Beach club scene to take the country by storm, bringing the
rich tradition of American folk music into the mainstream for the first time.
During the late 50s & early 60s, the Trio enjoyed unprecedented record
sales and worldwide fame, while influencing the musical tastes of a generation.
“The Kingston Trio” will make a stop at Jacksonville’s Wilson Center for
the Arts for two shows on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 3 & 7 p.m.
Cited as an influence by recording artists as musically and generationally
diverse as Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Eagles to comedian and
banjo player Steve Martin to contemporary artists such as the multi-Grammy®
nominated Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers, The Kingston Trio occupies
a unique, preeminent position in American musical history.
Through changing times, the Trio has played on, remaining popular for a simple
reason… great songs that sound as good today as the first time you heard them.
And fifty-eight years after Tom Dooley shot to the top of the charts, the Trio
is still on the road thirty weeks a year, bringing back all the great memories
and making new ones.
All three current members, Mike Marvin, Tim Gorelangton and Don Marovich, have
intrinsic links to and experience with the original group: Mike is the adopted
son of founding member Nick Reynolds, who was also his musical mentor; Tim, a
close friend since boyhood, is one of the few musicians outside the Trio who
has recorded with Nick Reynolds; and Don Marovich, who has performed with the
Trio and who plays the guitar, banjo and mandolin. Many of their personal
memories recall the iconic trio’s performances and journey as folk music made
its extraordinary ascent to the pinnacle of popular culture – and the top of
the music charts.
The Kingston Trio have created a special tribute in their upcoming concerts to
Arlo Guthrie, who announced that he will no longer be touring, so the TRIO are
performing one of his most famous songs ‘City of New Orleans’ as a tribute to
Arlo’s enduring musical legacy.

The Florida State College at Jacksonville High
School Summer Musical Theatre Experience is celebrating its 15th year providing
theatre opportunities to 7th–12th
graders in the First Coast area. This summer, more than 40 student performers
and technicians will train with professional theatre artists in preparation for
their production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat”.One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of
Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors.
Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the
musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his
brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, but ends up in
jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned,
Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in
front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to
Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with
his family.
The magical musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a
parody of French ballads (“Those Canaan Days”), to country-western (“One More
Angel in Heaven”) and calypso (“Benjamin Calypso”), along with the
unforgettable classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.”
Appropriate for all audiences and groups, Joseph is performed hundreds of times
a year by schools across North America, the U.K. and around the world.

Camp Broadway® introduces young people to the world of life

expand his or her creative talents, build self-esteem, learn the art of
collaboration, and gain a fuller respect and understanding of musical theatre.

kids who are just beginning to dream of being on Broadway. It is a self-contained summer workshop that
travels around the country bringing Broadway to kids. The 40 hours of camp include singing, dancing

The wacky and talented Professor Smart and Dr. Knowitall join forces for an

During Let's Go Science Show, kids learn science concepts through

The 13th Annual High School Summer Musical Theatre Experience of “Young Frankenstein” at the Wilson Center for the Arts was a pretty terrific show, and
you have two more chances to see it. Mel
Brooks would be very proud of these young people. Their acting is top notch, singing is pitch-perfect,
musical accompaniment highlight the singing, and the show follows the original
script with some minor adjustments. This
is the final weekend for this presentation and you would be amiss if you don’t
catch it.
Most of these actors and actresses attend local schools in the Jacksonville
area and you’ll probably see some of them in upcoming productions at the
Alhambra Theatre & Dining, Broadway and other theatrical venues around the
country. The whole world can be their
stage.

comes this monster new musical comedy. The comedy genius of Mel Brooks adapts his
legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein!
About the show: Grandson of the
infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced
"Fronk-en-steen") inherits his family's estate in Transylvania. With
the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced "Eye-gore"), and
a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in
the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. "It's alive!" he exclaims as
he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfathers. Eventually, of course,
the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abound.
Every bit as relevant to audience members who will remember the original as it
will be to newcomers, Young Frankenstein has all the panache of the screen
sensation with a little extra theatrical flair added. It will surely be the

For the first time Jacksonville will enjoy the
hit comedy, “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish &
I’m in Therapy!” featuring the author and Broadway star of the show,
Steve Solomon. This comedic hit comes to
the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts on October 14-15 for only three
performances. The show has become one of
the longest running one-man comedies in history, recently celebrating its
four-thousandth performance and including new material.
In “My
Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m in Therapy!” Steve brings to the stage dozens of wild
characters we can all relate to, using dialects, accents and even sound
effects. The audience follows along on this
wonderfully funny journey about growing up, mixed marriages, ex-wives, dogs,
cats, dieting, and dozens of other side-splitting situations.
“My Mother’s
Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m in Therapy!” is described as
“One-part lasagna, one-part kreplach, and two parts Prozac,” but you don’t have
to be Jewish or Italian to love this show. All you need is to know what it feels like to
leave a family dinner with heartburn and a headache!
About the Author: Steve Solomon was a self-professed “class clown” who grew
up to become a physics teacher and an assistant superintendent of schools. Steve used humor, dialects, and sound effects
to inspire his students and tick off his fellow administrators. Eventually, however, Solomon felt the
irresistible urge to follow his heart and write comedy. He returned to his roots to write the
autobiographical one-man show: “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m
in Therapy!” The show played for
two sold-out years in New York City and has toured internationally in more than
100 cities. It spun off three sequels, “My Mother’s
Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m STILL in Therapy!” and
“My Mother’s
Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m Home for the Holidays.” His four shows have had audiences in
three countries guffawing since 2003. Almost one million people have seen his shows.
He’s quite proud of his newest hit show:

Latkes & Guilt…the therapy continues!” All four of his shows are
currently touring.
