“Some Encouraging Words?”

Reading the newspaper (as small as it was for our town) was one of my daily duties.  One day I came across an article entitled “Success Isn’t Measured by Mistakes.”  The author rendered a few good thoughts:

A small blunder in business can make a customer end a life-long relationship.  Mistakes are costly.  Even minor errors delay work, cause repetition of tasks and lower profits, productivity and efficiency.  We do not measure mistakes we make, but rather by how quickly we recognize and recover from them.  The key to turning mistakes into profit is to learn from each mistake.

Four steps are involved in turning our mistakes into personal gain.  First, don’t allow the idea of making a mistake, paralyze your progress.  Second, find the lesson. Once you accept the fact that you will make mistakes, move forward and accept the challenge.  You will make errors.  Your success now hinges on learning the lesson.  The third step is to forgive yourself and go on with your life.  The final step is to think ahead which also works in other aspects of our lives.  Carefully consider what may happen with each decision you make. — Taylor, Don. “Minding Your Own Business” Clovis News Journal: Clovis, NM

Was opening the store a mistake?  Did I jump the gun so to speak?  Could my husband forgive me?  Could I forgive myself, pick myself up, dust myself off, and go on living?  What about the embarrassment of failure?  Sure, there’s no failure in God, but what about me?  Did I fail to hear Him?

“Time Will Tell”

(September 13, 1997)

Spiritual Band-Aid
It’s been awhile since I’ve written down the blessings and the trials, but let’s continue.  “For it’s by your grace, Lord, that I continue to travel this life’s journey.”  Five days ago the family was on their way to the gym to exercise (Let me explain.  Since we were military, we can use the exercise facilities on the military base at no charge, but we still have to buy gas for our car to go out to the base, which is approximately fifteen miles).  My daughter was driving my car and my husband was co-captain in the front.  All of a sudden, the car quit running and we smelt burnt rubber.  The spiritual band-aid (see page about spiritual band-aids; “Mr. And Mrs. Fix It”) had worn out, and our engine was gone.  It would take $3,000 to repair the car; our mechanic gave us that figure in the estimate.  We got a couple of second opinions, and that was that.  We needed a new engine.  God blessed us that we were able to pull over.  He sent one lady that we knew from another church, to take my husband back home for his truck and a towing chain.  Two gentlemen from our church and a pizza deliveryman were also sent from the Lord to help out.  My Father was supplying help.  Still, life goes on, and we must continue to work while it is day.

Sales were slow.  Rent and the bank note for the repairs on the building were due.  No merchandise was coming in, and stock was okay.  I thank God for the husband that He gave to me.  He did not place blame on me for opening the business.  Our situation was financially tight.  Things that we had to face day by day were still going on.  Why would they cease because of our financial difficulty?  We were now down to one mode of transportation.  I still had a store, my daughter had her part-time job, and my husband was still working for Uncle Sam.  We had social, church, business, school and other obligations we were working on that still needed to be accomplished.

I needed a financial blessing at this time, and I had to see where and how I was going to obtain it.  Was I supposed to…

Happy 37th Anniversary

This is a repeat article, but with pictures of what my Husband had planned for our Anniversary.
It’s said that you should try to outdo your partner in loving & caring for each other.  Love is putting your spouse ahead of yourself.  This 37th year of our marriage, he outdid himself.  I would like to dedicate this blog to you and Thank you Honey for treating me as the queen of our home.  It may be hard, butI will try to outdo you next year.
A Wife
A wife – hands you your mother’s birthday card and says, “Here Honey, sign this and say something nice to your Mom.”
A wife – juggles each day’s itinerary with a smile when you tell her—the night before—that you forgot to remind her that she has a dentist appointment at 8:00.  She already had another place by 10:00, can’t be late for lunch with you at 11:45, has a school meeting at 5:00, a nail appointment at 6:30; the office party at 8:30 (Yes, we do socialize at work. You never know who may need to hear the Word of God).  Isn’t it a good thing she planned that hair appointment yesterday, told Sue she’d go shopping with her next week, picked up a few groceries yesterday after work, and tomorrow just happens to be her day off from work?  Amazing!!!
A wife – reminds you that you do have children and will let you know their names and ages when you ask.
A wife – makes cookies the night before for her sons second-grade school party which she is supposed to be attending, walks her preschooler to the bus, comes home and does her daily devotional as she waits for a load of clothes to finish, picks up the mail, takes the clothes to the cleaners, picks up her preschooler from the bus stop, makes dinner, gets ready for a women’s meeting, and listens attentively while her spouse tells her of his busy day.
A wife – has super-sensitive hearing, which lets her know when someone in the house calls out during the middle of the night, and built-in ear plugs to disregard the snores.
A wife – may not be the same size as she was when you met, but she continues to be the attractive beauty you married some years ago.
A wife – tells you she loves you and will stand by your side till earthly death do you part.
When all is said and done, a wife – takes all this in stride, loves every moment, and wouldn’t trade her life with anyone.

Keep your “JOY”

Our Small Group continued with another fruit of the Holy Spirit, and that is the fruit of “Joy”.  We had three questions to answer concerning how “Joy” affects our everyday lives.  How do we, as Christians, allow Joy to be seen in us?

  • What about your life would cause someone, who doesn’t know Christ, want to experience God?
  • Have you ever known someone full of Joy?  How did you know they were full of Joy?
  • Would your joy be gone if you lost ALL your possessions?

Take a listen to the video and hear about the unspeakable Joy that graces our lives.

“Under Observation”

Christians live under a microscope, even among other believers.  We are watched closely to see what our reactions will be to certain situations.  Will we get upset?  Will we lose it?  What will we do?  But if we allow God to be the head of our lives, He will receive the glory in all that is done unto His name.  If I continually praise Him and wait on Him, He will direct my path.  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Is.40: 29, 31).

The difference between Job and us is that we have the story of Job in the Bible, and, by reading that story, we can see what the outcome will be; in our lives, we cannot see what the outcome will be.  All Job possessed was his faith.  Shall our faith in God be any less significant than his?
