I Acknowledge You

Proverbs 3: 5-

Do you know how sometimes you feel that God is not listening?  Or you’ve checked everything that you know according to the ordinances of God’s will, and it seems that your prayers are not reaching Gods’ ear?  It happens to the best of us.  Yet, rest assured that God hears, He understands, and He is working on your situation.

He lets us know that He hears us.  He tells us, in a subtle small way, that only God could make happen, that all is well and for us to hold out until later…(see Where Did That Come From)

You may not think that was something special, but I believe it to be God letting me know that He heard everything.  Some things may happen right away, as that incident did, and other expectations may take longer.

When things take longer than we anticipate, it’s usually because what we request from God is not His best for us at that time.  It may not be arriving on our so-called timetable, but, if we wait and allow God to be God, then we will receive the abundant, bountiful blessings of The Most High.  “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Gal. 6:9).

Consider the story of Joseph.^[1]  Here was a man favored by his daddy.  Jealous brothers sold him (instead of killing him), into slavery in a foreign country, because he was “All that and a bag of chips.”  The Brother had game. (a gift).

Although a slave in his new place, Joseph was shown favor in the household of his new master.  Sometimes we too are blessed, and we think it’s the greatest blessing that God would have for us—but it’s not God’s best…(see Where Did That Come From)

Hands of God and Adam

The man was so good at what he did that the Pharaoh of Egypt called for him.  How about that?  Joseph went “From the Pit to the Palace.”  In the end, Joseph’s brothers had to become submissive to Joseph because God had blessed Joseph with much more than he could ever have imagined.

Joseph had been lied about and mistreated numerous times, yet he held onto his faith in his one true God: Jehovah.  He didn’t allow circumstances to cause him to take his eyes off of God, the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2).

Sometimes, I too feel trapped and hopeless as Joseph must have; yet every time I see a butterfly, it reminds me that God loves me, and that He’s sending me something beautiful to fly across my path and brighten my day.  It’s as if God were presenting me with a present. He bestows so many little blessings on us that sometimes we don’t even notice them.

So, if you’re feeling as if God just doesn’t hear you through all of the tears you’ve shed, trust me, He hears, and, if you hold onto His promises, your reward is on its way; “…but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth” (Ps. 37: 9).

"Now Faith..."

When God tells you that you can, don’t allow anyone to tell you that you can’t.  God will never leave us or forsake us.  He’s right there saying, “I acknowledge you and better things are coming.” ― “I recently had to reread this for myself and grab hold to the promises of God”- Ms. “V”

Moving On Up With Our Lord

As former Military members, we are use to relocating and within a few months, moving into a new home – but not this time.  I know women like details, yet I’ll try to be brief.

A few years after our military retirement, my husband (Van) and I decided to move closer to family from Clovis, New Mexico to Jacksonville, Florida.  It took a lot of getting use to; nonetheless, we arrived in our 27ft. RV (Recreational Vehicle) back in September 2007.

The RV was fine for my hubby, me and a small dog, but when you add a Daughter, my Grandbaby and another dog – things got a little tight.  God blessed us with this house on wheels, yet imagine 3 adults, a baby and 2 dogs in a small confined space.  My second book (Bent But Not Broken) was birthed while in that RV.

Our house in NM wouldn’t sell and had gone into “Short Sale”.  Van had his military retirement, but no work offers from the applications that had been submitted.  He was receiving a couple months pay from a previous position, and the money was going down.  It looked bleak.  Finally, God moved on our behalf and his Miracle Position came through.

Did I forget to mention that we were paying for a house in NM, paying RV rental lot fees and household goods storage fees on all our furniture here in Florida.  Lots of money was going out and more bills than paycheck.

We are strong believers in what God can & will do for us despite our time restrictions.  Have you ever NOT wanted to come home because of the way things are at home?  Not emotional but physical.  And don’t tell me we should have been grateful for a roof over our heads.  During Tropical Storm Faye, the RV had some leaking issues and needless to say the wind created some serious concerns.  Meanwhile the house in NM finally sold, although way below loan value.  The second mortgage (not a smart decision) is still being paid back.

We needed some relief until our needs were met. So, the Spirit of the Lord suggested that Van find a place for rent.  So, in November of 2009, we all moved (except for one dog) into a beautiful 3 bedroom home.  Home ownership was our desire but because of the “Short Sale”, home ownership was not possible at that time.  The rental was gorgeous and we could get rid of the storage bill and the RV space rental.  We have always been givers, so we donated the RV to a church in Georgia.  It’s amazing how God’s supply comes when necessary.  Sure you may have to wait, but the blessings are assured.

The entire time that we’ve been in Florida has not been ‘sunshine and lollipops’.  We’ve had sickness and death in the family and ‘Florida Children and Family Services’ continues to drag their feet; but, through it all, we NEVER stopped loving each other or loving God.  He has been with us every step of the way.  I’ve always signed my emails and certain correspondence with “TBR” (Trust, Believe, Receive), and we chose to remain faithful despite what it looked like in the natural.  So many blessings have come upon our family, but I promised that I would keep this post short.

On September 29, 2012, Van and I signed papers on our new 4 bedroom home.  We can once again, enjoy the pride and financial blessings of owning a home.  The scriptures say, “Wait upon the Lord”, “Rejoice in the Lord Always”, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”.  We kept God first and foremost in our lives and we allowed Him to lead us to our perfect blessing.  TBR!!!

Hearing God

I enjoy hearing a word from God through others who hear His voice when our Father speaks. Other people’s messages frequently assure me that I’m following the straight and narrow path of righteousness. It is wonderful to receive a confirmation from God through others. “Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Mat. 7:14).


We Have To Realize God

Once we learn what God has for us and what his purpose is in our lives, then we will be prosperous, victorious, and walk in a renewed lifestyle.

Just Be Thankful
(That was Then—This is Now)

It is so easy for one to overlook the little blessings that are received daily. Sometimes we have to focus in on the little gifts that God gives us, and just be thankful. We owed almost everyone. We owed the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker, so to speak. Previous medical and dental bills were still in litigation with the insurance companies. There even came a time when someone very close to me told me that my life had been going down hill ever since we came back to the United States. Since my family and I had been doing more in the name of the Lord, I guess the world thought that things were not looking good. It probably did look like that was the case. However, I knew it was the devil creating many of the problems we were having, and I also knew that if we waited on the Lord, He would show us the right pathway.

Our family had appeared very prosperous in Germany. We were active in church. We didn’t have to trust in God for much of anything because we could afford to get it ourselves. We had five sources of income and spent every bit of it. We lived ‘high on the hog.’ It was nothing for us to go out and drop 90 Marks (about $45) for a meal once or twice a week. We were always on the go and always doing something. We were blessed, but were we truly thankful? Sure, we gave God His ‘honorable mention,’ but were we really appreciative for what He allowed us to do? Did we acknowledge the fact that it was God who blessed us with each job that we had?

When that dear person caused all of these thoughts to come to my attention, I told the person to read the book of Job. When that same person told me that my life was not as prosperous now—I let tem know that my life was fuller today than it was then. I have a growing relationship with my Jesus, and, if I were to die today, I would not have any regrets. I am not just looking for that unhindered life everlasting—but I know that the God, whom I serve, will not leave me nor forsake me. I can’t, and I won’t, give up on God.

“Throw It to Jesus”

(March 24, 1997)
“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you” (I Pet. 5:7).

Familiar scripture isn’t it? Well, I never thought about what the word “cast” meant. Cast means to throw—like casting a line and hook out across a body of water to catch a fish. You can’t just give the line to the body of water. You have to throw that hook and line (called casting) far out into the water. Sometimes we have to cast our faith out to God to show Him that we may be trusted to do His will.

One instance I was thinking about happened shortly after the Lord had blessed me with the retail store that I had desired. I had done everything I thought God had instructed me to do in obtaining the store and getting it started. So, when I thought that I was finished, I passed the ball back to the Lord (I envisioned being in a basketball game with God. I would get the ball, score a basket and then it was turned over to God for Him to do His thing). Well, I again visualized God passing the ball back to me, but I didn’t want the ball. I had already scored my point and thought I wouldn’t get the ball back until God scored His point. However, the ball kept finding its way back to my side of the court. (What I didn’t realize is that God was telling me that this was my game, played by my rules, and God was letting me finish the game without Him because it was not His plan!).

What did God want of me now? Customers were not beating a path to my doorstep, so - I had time on my hands, and, as a result, my prayer time was increased. I started on my second book, gathering thoughts from above (the first book wasn’t published yet). Bills were accumulating, yet they were being paid before the final “nasty-gram” arrived. My husband was supporting the business, working three jobs, and doing volunteer work. I hadn’t seen a paycheck since I left my last position. I wanted to pay my tithes (10% to God’s kingdom), and give more to those who were in need, but I wasn’t able to get blood from any turnip, and, in addition, I could hardly pay the rent for the building.

I didn’t want the ball! I almost didn’t want to play anymore…

"You May be Down, But You're Never Defeated"

Just as a fruit tree is heavy, when laden with fruit; so too are our lives sometimes heavy with problems. We sometimes bend under the pressures and strains that life brings us. We get depressed. We lack self-confidence. We don't trust people. We say that we can't take it anymore. We need a solution to our dilemma.

When things like this happen to us it's good to know that someone else has gone through the same or similar situations as you have; and that they have made it through. You too should be able to identify with this book and make it through life's journeys. You are not alone. You can make it with confidence. You can move you mountain that have help you back. You can be an over-comer through Christ Jesus, the deliverer of all our problems. Learn how to stand tall like the majestic French Maritime Evergreen Pine trees (pictured on the cover) that sway in the midst of any storm. "Bent But Not Broken" will help you to enjoy what God has for you despite what the circumstances may look like. "You will bend, but you won't bread." It's like the old toy commercial, "Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down". We may be tossed to and fro in the wind, but with our feet firmly planted in Him; we won't fall down.

We are not to add to not take away from God's Word, yet I do believe that He helps us today with inspiring words of wisdom from others. Those things that are written in this book are some of those inspired words; some of which are very funny. As you conclude this book, my prayer to God is for "Bent But Not broken" to have eased some of you time through your 'valley'- don't fear. Be Blessed In Order To Be A Bigger Blessing.

Jonah’s Prayer 2:2-10

(A Modern Day Interpretation)

Deep in a world of sin and decay, we call upon the Lord for mercy. We may have done something wrong or might have been disobedient.

:2 “I need you Lord. I’ve called on you before and you heard my cry and answered my call. I’m calling on you Lord. Hear me.”

:3 “You put me here in this world, to do a job for you. You let me stumble and fall to the lowest low. Trouble is all around me. Bills, pain, suffering and despair. Lord, it looks bad.”

:4 I said, “Lord, where are you? Do you hear me? I’ve really done it this time. I can’t seem to feel you Lord. Will I ever be in your good graces again?”

:5 “Where are you Lord? I can’t get out of this rut I’m in. I’m being smothered Lord. I can’t see my way. I can’t get out of the situation I’m in. Lord, you know I’ve tried.”

:6 “I tried to end it all. I couldn’t take it (life) any more, but that wasn’t your plan. You wouldn’t let me end my life.”

:7 “At that very moment, when I felt my life slipping away, I prayed to you. I asked your forgiveness. I requested your help, and from your throne, you heard me.”

:8 “Lord, I know that those persons, who don’t look to you for help in their time of need, look to a false god. They have cut their own throats. They that look to other gods than you, and do not adhere to your Word; give-up their grace from you.”

:9 “But from now on, I’ll do right Lord. I’ll do what I’ve promised you I’d do. I’ll fast, I’ll Pray, I’ll go, when and where you tell me to go. No ifs, ands or buts. You are my only hope. Others can do what they will Lord, but I will trust in you.”

:10 God gave His command and Satan had to step back. It’s up to us as to what we do with an order from God. Do we give up when we make a mistake, and throw in the towel? Why not ask for God’s forgiveness and press-on?

Picture This – Is this happening in your church?

Situation: there’s a football lying on the ground with a group of players standing around looking at it, and the conversation heard goes something like this:

“Guess we’re gonna make a touch-down soon.” “I wonder how far I could run with that ball.” “I never played football before; I’ll look silly.” “Someone else will pick up the ball and run with it. I’ll wait until they do.” “I’m not running. I’ll mess up my hair. Don’t you run either.” “Oh! I was gonna take it, but I’ll let the quarterback score the goal.” “I’m too tired, and I did enough already.” “I’d play, but I don’t have the right uniform (what happened to come as you are?)” What excuses are these people trying to make?

Now take a look at your position that you hold within your church. Aren’t we supposed to help the church and others? Is someone losing the game because they aren’t taking an active part as a team player?

We must seek to ask God where we fit in and where He would have us to serve. Be encouraged! (I Cor.9: 24-25, II Tim. 4:7, Phil. 3:14 & Mat. 13:12, 25:29). Did you grab your Bible? Go get it and read those scriptures. Please. Let’s get Busy!

Dueling Paper Mates™

“The pen is mightier than the sword,” is a famous quote that was penned by Edward Bulwer-Lytton. I don’t believe that Mr. Bulwer-Lytton was referring to the Word of God (the Bible) when he spoke about the sword, but, what he may have meant is that you don’t have to get violent and retaliate if a situation is not right.

We Christians should voice our opinion, especially when our human rights are violated. If there is a movie that comes to our town, we have the choice to voice our concerns. First, we should not go to see that particular movie; and second, in some places, we can let the theater owner know that we don’t appreciate that type of movie to be shown in our town. This works better in smaller communities. Next, we can write the movie company and express our concerns and get others to write as well. Sure, it takes time to write, but, if we want to see change, we must take the time to make a difference.

“Keep On Pushing”

…I continued to keep myself encouraged with positive Christian music from past and present artists. The Rev. James Cleveland, Andrea Crouch, Carmen (“Step of Faith”) and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir were among a few of the artists whose music I chose to feed my spirit. I thought about the good things that God did in the lyrics of these songs. I pondered how God desired to bless His people and how His people praised His name because of His love and mercy. I began to think, “Now here are some now-a-day folks who have experienced God’s blessings; why would they write and sing about God’s goodness if they never experienced, first-hand, what God could and would do for them? God had come through for these people. So, if God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34), then what He did for them (and they sing about it), He can do the same and even greater things (John 5:20, 14:12), for me and also through me. At one time, I wondered if God really did all the many wonderful things that people wrote and sang about. Then I realized that these different artists wouldn’t be singing God’s praises unless what they sang about had really happen to them in their lives. They weren’t singing about what God did in someone else’s life, but what He did in their lives. I may not have been blessed to sing about what God can and will do, but I can write about it.

Meanwhile, God was still talking to me, and we would have a spiritual dialogue called prayer. I continued to receive inspirations for this book, not on a daily basis, but quite often. Remember, I did have a choice. I could have turned God off and refused to write down our encounters because of the situation that I was living through, but I chose to give Him the glory. I cast the situation upon Him. I know He cares and He will deliver me out of them (difficult or heartbreaking situations) all: Ps. 107:6 “Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.”…
