Rainere Hale Martin’s God-given musical talent manifested
itself at an early age, but today, Donna Summer tribute artist Rainere Martin (often
known simply as Rainere), takes her talent all around the country entertaining
and winning the love of audiences from coast to coast. Take a listen to her HERE.
Following a standing ovation performance on the national television show ‘Showtime
at the Apollo’, Rainere realized the musical pulse of the 70s and her passion
for honoring its iconic disco singer, Donna Summer, was the niche she
had been searching for. She went to work developing her tribute
performance and presented it before audiences of all sizes. The sounds of funk, soul and pop are infused
in each of Rainere’s performances.
Rainere is one of the most talented musical impersonators/tribute artist on
tour today. Her debut performance with
Legends in Concert at Bakers Atlantic City dazzled the audience. She has graced the stage at the Tropicana in
Atlantic City and BB King’s in New York. Rainere has perfected her ability to entertain
crowds with the classic disco sounds of the ’70s.
Jourdan Carroll is
just one of those singers that you never want to forget. Walking away from his soulful voice at the
end of a show gives you hope and admiration of his talent. Known to some of his friends and fans as Big
Daddy Boo Bear, Jourdan Carroll has worked his entire life on his voice as he
practiced daily on his vocal range for years before he finally mastered his
iconic sound. His voice is so deep and
mesmerizing it is often associated with the voice of the legendary Barry
White. After being noted so many times
of his resemblance to Mr. White, he decided to bring the 70’s soul star back to
life.
Beside Barry White, he is also a tribute artist of Luther
Vandross, Isaac Hayes, Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass, Freddy Jackson and Philip
Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire. Jourdan
Carroll and his enthralling stage presence will be something to see for years
to come. The performances are known
throughout the nation and are slowly making their way to international

When country music lovers talk about the

is always at the forefront of any discussion. Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals
and the band’s skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering
such hits as “Two Dozen Roses,” “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next
to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I
Want to be Loved Like That” and the Grammy winning “Somewhere in the
Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss. The group will be in the Jacksonville, Florida
area with their 30th Anniversary Tour for one night only, at the
Thrasher-Horne Center, on Friday November 3, 2017 at 8 p.m.
Today that legacy continues as original members Marty Raybon (a native of
Sanford, Florida who attended Clay High School in Green Cove Springs) and Mike
McGuire reunite to launch a new chapter in Shenandoah’s storied career. It all
began when the guys got back together to perform a benefit concert for a friend
battling cancer. “We saw how folks
reacted,” Raybon says of the response to their reunion. “And then Jerry Phillips, son of legendary
Sun Records producer Sam Phillips, said ‘You guys need to make a run at this.
People still love what you do. You can tell by the reaction. There’s a lot of
excitement in the air.'”
Marty and the band are thrilled to be returning to Northeast Florida to present
songs from their new album, Good News Travels Fast,
as well as fan favorites from their previous ten studio releases. “We are really proud of the quality of the
material that we have in our catalog and how it’s touched so many people’s
lives,” Mike McGuire says. “As far as
the future goes, I’m expecting more of the same.”

Center in Fernandina Beach! On November

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is honored to announce it has won the
Gold award from the 2017 Southeastern Museum Conference (SEMC) Exhibition
Competition for LIFT: Contemporary
Expressions of the African American Experience. The competition focuses on
exhibitions that are well designed, have educational value, and treat objects
with care and respect, showcasing the best in the profession and providing
benchmarks for the regional exhibition efforts in southeastern museums. The
award was presented to the Museum on September 12, 2017, in the under $25,000
budget category.
LIFT was a collection of works by 10
local artists responding to Jacksonville’s rich artistic African American
heritage, and focused on creating an artful platform to discuss issues around
race, equity, and community. Participating artists created works utilizing the
original lyrics to “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” a hymn written by Jacksonville natives
James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson in 1900 for a celebration of
Lincoln’s birthday. The works included abstract emotional responses,
traditional portraiture, and even completely non-objective pieces. These new
works challenged and inspired, giving way to contemporary views of the lyrics
and social relevance to the Johnson brothers’ masterpiece. LIFT was on display at the Museum from June 14, 2016 through
February 12, 2017.
“There were a total of 18 applicants to the Exhibition Competition this year. I
coordinated the 2017 Exhibition Competition as the Southeastern Museums
Council regional representative for the Curators Committee of the American
Alliance of Museums,” said Denise Drury Homewood, Chair of SEMC 2017
Exhibition Competition & Executive Director of the John
W. Bardo Fine & Performing Arts Center.
The SEMC Exhibition Competition honors curatorial excellence in
museums across the Southeast. Awarded institutions, like the Cummer Museum
of Art & Gardens, were selected by a committee of three professionals in
the museum field using a criteria based on the American Alliance of
Museum’s 2012 ‘Standards for Museum Exhibitions and Indicators of Excellence’.
The Southeastern Museum Conference is a networking organization that serves to
foster professionalism, mutual support, and communication. The SEMC is an
association of museums, museum staff, independent professionals, and corporate
partners in 14 states, including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. As a
nonprofit membership association, SEMC strives to increase educational and
professional development opportunities and improve the interchange of ideas,
information, and cooperation. The organization seeks to encourage diversity and
foster mutual respect and collegiality, and develop new initiatives within the
larger context of the profession.

medal winner in Rio, appeared at the 2017
Southern Women’s Show, Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on the Fashion Stage. Laurie was interviewed by First Coast News anchorwoman,
Keitha Nelson, whom you will recognize from the TV show; “Good
Morning Jacksonville”. The cute and fit seventeen-year-old
gymnast answered questions from Keitha, and also numerous questions from very
young enthusiastic gymnasts. Miss
Hernandez stayed around and signed copies of her book (“I Got This: To Gold and
Beyond”) and took pictures with her fans.
She is very well spoken young woman and was an encourager to those in
attendance. Laurie was brought to the 2017
SWS by the Florida Dairy
Farmers.
