The last time that Barry and Donna were in Jacksonville, Florida from November 15 - 19, 2007; the shows sold out.  So why would you miss

Rainere Hale Martin
’s God-given musical talent manifested itself at an early age, but today, Donna Summer tribute artist Rainere Martin (often known simply as Rainere), takes her talent all around the country entertaining and winning the love of audiences from coast to coast.

Following a standing ovation performance on the national television show ‘Showtime at the Apollo’, Rainere realized the musical pulse of the 70s and her passion for honoring its iconic disco singer, Donna Summer, was the niche she had been searching for.  She went to work developing her tribute performance and presented it before audiences of all sizes.  The sounds of funk, soul and pop are infused in each of Rainere’s performances.

Rainere is one of the most talented musical impersonators/tribute artist on tour today.  Her debut performance with Legends in Concert at Bakers Atlantic City dazzled the audience.  She has graced the stage at the Tropicana in Atlantic City and BB King’s in New York.  Rainere has perfected her ability to entertain crowds with the classic disco sounds of the ’70s.

Jourdan Carroll is just one of those singers that you never want to forget.  Walking away from his soulful voice at the end of a show gives you hope and admiration of his talent.  Known to some of his friends and fans as Big Daddy Boo Bear, Jourdan Carroll has worked his entire life on his voice as he practiced daily on his vocal range for years before he finally mastered his iconic sound.  His voice is so deep and mesmerizing it is often associated with the voice of the legendary Barry White.  After being noted so many times of his resemblance to Mr. White, he decided to bring the 70’s soul star back to life.

Beside Barry White, he is also a tribute artist of Luther Vandross, Isaac Hayes, Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass, Freddy Jackson and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire.  Jourdan Carroll and his enthralling stage presence will be something to see for years to come.  The performances are known throughout the nation and are slowly making their way to international ears.  Along with his musical talents, Jourdan Carroll is also a fashion designer and has developed a line of contemporary male clothing.

Take a listen of their dynamic quality right HERE and call the Alhambra for a chance to see this dynamic duo.   If you’d like to be whisked-back to the seventies, you better get your tickets and get ready for the time of your life.  Don’t wait too long.  There are a few seats left.

Donna Summer and Barry White pack-out the Alhambra

Talk about Dancing in the Streets, if you want to get-down with some great romantic tunes and some terrific disco-mixes, you better hurry to the final Alhambra After Dark “The Donna Summer & Barry White Experience” shows.  This performance in JAX is highlighted by the talented lookalike and soundalike persona of Barry White, by tribute artist Jourdan Carrol (Lovingly called, “Big Daddy Boo Bear”), and the gorgeous onstage personality of Donna Summer mimicked by tribute star Rainere Martin.

Jourdan charmed the ladies with his suave baritone voice and his handsome demeanor of the famous singer Barry White.  The man gave away two dozen roses to unsuspecting recipients as he strolled throughout the theatre serenading ladies, giving them a rose and shaking their hands.  What a treat!  You may recall the songs that he sang before intermission: “Love’s Theme; You're The First, The Last, My Everything; Never Never Gonna Give Ya Up, Your Sweetness Is My Weakness, Playing Your Game, Baby, Oh What a Night for Dancing, Sho You Right, What Am I Gonna Do with You, Let the Music Play, I'm Qualified to Satisfy You, Practice What You Preach & ending his set with Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe.”  The man can sing!

After intermission the participants wanted more and they got the desires of their hearts through the rhythmic singing and gyrations of the beautiful Rainere Martin (Donna Summer) appearing in a lovely form-fitting sequin gown and stiletto heels.  This lady got up close and personal as she meandered through the Alhambra performing familiar tunes as: “On the Radio, Bad Girls, Hot Stuff, Dim All the Lights, MacArthur Park, I Love You, Heaven Knows, She Works Hard for the Money, Could It Be Magic & Last Dance”.  Both she and Jourdan ended the evening with their rendition of “Heaven Knows”.  Oh, what a night of talent!

Each performer made themselves available at the end of the night for pictures with their guests.  If you want to be whisked-back to the seventies, you still have a little time to get tickets and be prepared for the time of your life.  Also check out what’s in store from Executive Chef DeJuan Roy HERE.  OBTW, the Braised Beef Short Ribs have great taste and fall apart with the touch of a fork.  As always, look forward to the house-made rolls and flavorful desserts.

Recording artist Shawn Mullins playing the Alhambra Theatre and Dining

Shawn Mullins coming to JAX for one evening

Grammy®-nominated Singer/Songwriter Shawn Mullins will play a gig in the Alhambra After Dark music series at Jacksonville’s iconic Alhambra Theatre & Dining.  Mullins, nominated for his Grammy Award breakout song, “Lullaby,” is touring North America to promote My Stupid Heart, his new album available here.

Originally from Clarkston, GA, Mullins’ critical breakthrough came in 1998 with his song "Lullaby,” from the album Soul's Core, as it became a radio and video hit.  Also from Soul’s Core, "All in My Head," was featured on the hit television sitcom Scrubs. Another hit single, "Shimmer," was included on the soundtrack for the TV show Dawson's Creek.  "Shimmer" was also used in Australia as part of its promotional campaign during the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and is still considered in Australia as the unofficial anthem of the games.

"My Stupid Heart" is Mullins’ ninth studio album.  Coming off a tour of music festival performances, Mullins is wrapping up his US tour that included stops in Atlanta, New York, Tampa and Washington, DC, and found some time to fit in a show at America’s longest running dinner theater.  The Alhambra has produced several tribute artist shows commemorating artists like Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, The Carpenters and John Denver, and even hosted The Amazing Kreskin, but this is its inaugural foray hosting a contemporary artist on his current tour.

“When we started the concept of Alhambra After Dark, artists like Shawn were exactly what we had in mind” said Alhambra Managing Partner, Craig Smith.  “Shawn is a big-time performer who owns our kind of room: intimate and authentic.  It’s taken us a while to perfect that vibe, and we’re excited to host acts of Shawn’s caliber.  He’s a Grammy-nominee on our stage.  It’s a bit of a milestone for us as we continue trying new things to celebrate our 50th anniversary.”

Said Director of Operations and talent coordinator, Gary Smith, “From a business perspective, we’re hoping the music industry takes notice of this room.  Everyone who has played here comments on how hip, cool and intimate it is.  Plus, artists like Shawn will help us draw some folks who have not been here before.  Shawn is just the first such artist to play our room.”
