‘Mike Albert’ brings the ‘Elvis Birthday Bash’ to JAX

The Florida Theatre is pleased to announce the return of The Elvis Birthday Bash Starring Mike Albert, Scot Bruce and The Big E Band on Friday, January 7, 2022.

World-class Elvis impersonators Mike Albert and Scot Bruce along with the Big E Band return to the Florida Theatre to celebrate Elvis' 87th Birthday Bash.

From his sexy sneer to his gyrating guitar playing, Scot Bruce is one of the world’s finest “Young Elvis” impersonators, while Mike Albert presents a stunningly accurate and respectful portrayal of the latter-day “Vegas” Elvis. Backed by the Big E Band, the two performers will trace Elvis from his rockabilly days to some of his final recordings.

This celebration hits close to home as the most famous live performances in the Florida Theatre’s past or modern history occurred on August 10 and 11, 195, when Elvis Presley, then riding high on the hit singles “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog” and “Don’t Be Cruel,” played six shows over two days (read more about these famous shows here). ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ comes to JAX for one evening

“Million Dollar Quartet” is the Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical, inspired by an electrifying true story, rocks the Times-Union Center for one performance only!  Million Dollar Quartet brings that unbelievable musical moment to life with an irresistible tale of broken promises, secrets, betrayal, humor, celebration, unforgettable performances of such timeless and enduring hits as: “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Fever,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “I Walk the Line,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more.

On December 4, 1956, an auspicious twist of fate brought together four young musicians – Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis Presley. Sam Phillips, the undisputed “Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll” who was responsible for launching the careers of each of these icons, gathered the four-legendary singer/songwriters at the Sun Records studio in Memphis for the first and only time. The result? One of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll jam sessions in history.

The four music icons of Million Dollar Quartet are portrayed by: Daniel Durston as Elvis Presley, Taylor Gray as Jerry Lee Lewis, Austin Hohnke as Carl Perkins, and Peter Oyloe as Johnny Cash. Andy Ingalls plays Sam Philips.  The cast also features Tiffan Borelli as Dyanne, Bill Morey as Brother Jay (Jay Perkins), and Jon Rossi as Fluke.

Million Dollar Quartet won a Tony® Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical and received two Tony® nominations, one for Best Musical and one for Best Book of a Musical (Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux).  The show received an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Musical Revue, and three Drama League nominations including Distinguished Production of a Musical and Distinguished Performance.  Million Dollar Quartet is produced by Gershwin Entertainment, in association with the Barter Theatre. Alhambra After Dark 2018 opens with ‘Elvis’

Through its “After Dark” series, the Alhambra offers live entertainment beyond its traditional Broadway-style theatrical performances.  The Alhambra Theatre & Dining will kick off its 2018 Alhambra After Dark music series with the one and only tribute artist Kevin Mills who will return to the Alhambra right before Valentine’s Day.  His new award-winning tribute to Elvis Presley is entitled - “Elvis is Back!”  Kevin is one of the top Elvis Presley impersonators in the country.

January looked great at the Times Union Center in JAX

January 2017 was a month for ballet, comedy, impersonators and music from the 1940’s at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts in Jacksonville, Florida.  There were four different shows to satisfy the entertainment appeal of almost everyone.

“Swan Lake” was a great ballet that could be enjoyed by old and young alike.  Unlike an opera, a ballet can be better understood through the dance, costumes, the storyline within the program or previous knowledge of that particular classical dance.  The State Ballet Theatre of Russia presented fifty of Russia’s brightest ballet stars to bring the ballet to the stage as a romantic tale of true love within four acts.  Swan Lake is set to the music of Tchaikovsky and based on Russian folklore and German legend that follows a heroic young prince as he works to free the beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell.
 

It’s true – Men & Women see things differently.  Peter Story came for a few days to educate (with comedy) and give some antidotes from John Gray’s famous book: “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”.  This one-man-show kept everyone laughing and may have helped to make things better within relationships.  If there’s nothing that needs improvement, then the show is a hoot anyway.  Moving swiftly through a series of sketches, the performance covered everything from dating, to marriage and also to the bedroom as Peter exposed the differences between the sexes.

Close your eyes – each Elvis singer (Dean Z, Jay Dupuis and Bill Cherry) sounded just like the real deal.  Open your eyes and “Elvis Lives” right before your eyes.  As your eyes pan the attendees, heads were bobbing and people were dancing in their seats.  Elvis Lives was better than any Elvis show that you could see on the Las Vegas Strip.  When asked if the actors would rather be in Vegas or on the road, their unanimous reply was most of them live in Vegas and going elsewhere is more enjoyable.  Ann Margaret came on the scene & sang a couple of duets with “the king”.  At this time, some of the men in the house began to smile a little bit.  The impersonator (Carol Maccri) imitated Ann’s wispy vocals and her shaking moves.

The final show for January was “In the Mood”, a 1940’s musical review that brought realization of a time when all America was listening and dancing to the same kind of music.  Six vocalists (Emillie Bienne, Jordan Ellis, Daniel Fuentes, Alexander Markowitz, Brittney Leigh Morton and Paige Sabo), along with a 13-piece band called “String of Pearls”, captivated the audience with over 42 memorable songs from that era.  The entire night reminded the attendees of the McGuire Sisters, Benny Goodman or Bob Hope and his USO shows.  It was a time of war, yet the music made the time period easier to accept and persevere.

Elvis Lives 'The Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Event' in JAX

On Stage Touring LLC, in association with Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. (EPE), is proud to announce the national hit theatrical "Elvis Lives" which will be presented in Jacksonville at the Times-Union Center.  The show was last in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, January 28, 2012 and the reviews were fabulous.  Grab some tickets if you missed the last show.

Elvis Lives, which keeps on capturing the imaginations and interests of fans of all types including Broadway, concert and Elvis aficionados, is an unforgettable multimedia and live musical journey across Elvis' life featuring winners from Elvis Presley Enterprises' annual worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, each representing Elvis during different stages in his career. The Elvis tribute artists will be joined by a live band, backup singers and dancers, along with an Ann-Margret tribute artist as well as iconic imagery made available from the Graceland tribute artists in the world.  These talented performers really capture the spirit archives which include an exhibit of life-size images of Elvis’ stage wear that will be on display at the Times-Union Center.

About the Group: The high-energy show features Ultimate winners Bill Cherry,
Dean Z and Jay Dupuis, 2009, 2013 and 2014 respectively, as the principle cast for the winter/spring production of Elvis Lives.  Bill Cherry last appeared at the Times Union Center, Moran Theater in 2012.
