First Alhambra After Dark 2017 show 'The Everly Brothers Experience'

The Alhambra After Dark is thrilled to kick off the 2017 Music Series with “The Bird Dogs”, one of the country's premiere tributes to the Everly Brothers.  The Bird Dogs bring a genuine and youthful show, “The Everly Brothers Experience” to the Alhambra Theater and Dining stage for two exciting nights.

The Zmed Brothers, Dylan and Zachary, celebrate the genetic intimacy so ever-present in the harmonies created by Don and Phil Everly.  When the guitar became electric, the Everly Brothers bridged the gap between country and rock n' roll.  With countless hits, the Everly Brothers inspired bands like The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, The Kinds, Buddy Holly and many more groups that utilized two-part harmony.  Their career spanned three decades and continues to influence artists around the world.

Join the Alhambra After Dark for an incredible evening of music and memories with songs you know such as: Cathy's Clown, All I Have to do is Dream, (Till) I Kissed You, Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Susie and so many more.  And don’t forget to purchase your colorful “Alhambra Theatre and Dining, 50 Years of Memories” hardback coffee table book. It’s a wonderful addition to any home and is available for $39.99, when you attend this performance.

Recording artist Shawn Mullins playing the Alhambra Theatre and Dining

Shawn Mullins coming to JAX for one evening

Grammy®-nominated Singer/Songwriter Shawn Mullins will play a gig in the Alhambra After Dark music series at Jacksonville’s iconic Alhambra Theatre & Dining.  Mullins, nominated for his Grammy Award breakout song, “Lullaby,” is touring North America to promote My Stupid Heart, his new album available here.

Originally from Clarkston, GA, Mullins’ critical breakthrough came in 1998 with his song "Lullaby,” from the album Soul's Core, as it became a radio and video hit.  Also from Soul’s Core, "All in My Head," was featured on the hit television sitcom Scrubs. Another hit single, "Shimmer," was included on the soundtrack for the TV show Dawson's Creek.  "Shimmer" was also used in Australia as part of its promotional campaign during the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics and is still considered in Australia as the unofficial anthem of the games.

"My Stupid Heart" is Mullins’ ninth studio album.  Coming off a tour of music festival performances, Mullins is wrapping up his US tour that included stops in Atlanta, New York, Tampa and Washington, DC, and found some time to fit in a show at America’s longest running dinner theater.  The Alhambra has produced several tribute artist shows commemorating artists like Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, The Carpenters and John Denver, and even hosted The Amazing Kreskin, but this is its inaugural foray hosting a contemporary artist on his current tour.

“When we started the concept of Alhambra After Dark, artists like Shawn were exactly what we had in mind” said Alhambra Managing Partner, Craig Smith.  “Shawn is a big-time performer who owns our kind of room: intimate and authentic.  It’s taken us a while to perfect that vibe, and we’re excited to host acts of Shawn’s caliber.  He’s a Grammy-nominee on our stage.  It’s a bit of a milestone for us as we continue trying new things to celebrate our 50th anniversary.”

Said Director of Operations and talent coordinator, Gary Smith, “From a business perspective, we’re hoping the music industry takes notice of this room.  Everyone who has played here comments on how hip, cool and intimate it is.  Plus, artists like Shawn will help us draw some folks who have not been here before.  Shawn is just the first such artist to play our room.”

Barbara Streisand tribute artist coming to the Alhambra

Beginning on April 5 for only five shows, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining continues their 50th Season Celebration with nationally renowned Barbra Streisand Tribute Artist, Sharon Owens.  Mannerisms, vocals, and appearance are the exact duplicate of the famous Barbara Streisand as Sharon opens her show entitled, “An Enchanted Evening with Barbra Streisand.”  Owens will take her audience on a journey through Ms. Streisand’s biggest years – 60s Broadway, 70s Disco, and 80s Films.  You will be captivated them with such favorites as: Don’t Rain on My Parade, The Way We Were, Evergreen, Woman in Love, Somewhere and People.  Attendees will laugh, cry, chuckle and singalong on these songs as Owen’s precise interpretation of the infamous Streisand hits the stage.

If you thought that you heard her sing and saw her dance at the Busch Gardens Main Theater in Tampa Bay Florida – you did!  When she landed a nightclub gig in Los Angeles singing a lone Barbra Streisand song, Sharon Owens didn’t realize at the time that she was to become a pioneer in the music tribute business.  Unlike many of the other impersonators who are “lookalikes.”  Owens didn’t study voice and acting simply to be called a tribute artist.

“Imitating Streisand became an acting job,” Owens explains, “So many movies have been made where actors immerse themselves into their movie character and then tell a life story of the real person.  I simply do the same thing, but on stage.”

Soon after starting out as a dynamic mimic of the incomparable Streisand, Ms. Owens began to take the comedy routine more seriously.  She honed her Brooklyn accent, studied Streisand’s intense vocal sounds and spent hours recreating her look with gorgeous gowns.  In the 15 years of her “Streisand career,” she has been featured on Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, Extra, and in People Magazine.  She also starred in a ABC’s reality show, “The Next Best Thing.”  Winning the Fox TV show, “Performing As…” propelled her career.

Executive Chef DeJuan Roy will have an exquisite dinner prepared especially for Ms Streisand’s/Owens guests.  If you’re a fan of the Alhambra After Dark concerts, you’ll want to get your tickets before they’re “sold out”, as so many of the other Alhambra shows have been.  Hope to see you there!
