Mothers & Fathers of the church - yesterday and today - same wisdom

Our church is getting ready for a “Corporate Fast” and part of the fast is to “Stop Complaining”.  This post is meant to be a guide and not a hindrance to young people

Face Book is one place that people usually give advice, share files, spread love & they also complain.  It is the obligation of the Mothers & Fathers of the church (mature Christian women & men) to give sound counsel to those who are younger.  Elders are to aid young people, who haven’t been through or experienced certain situations, with helpful knowledge.  It is so important that those mature persons advise with Godly wisdom.

In a course that I teach entitled, “The Confident Woman”, I try to give young women help in appearances, seeking employment, communication, interactions, seeking companionship and general “how to’s”.  Most of the time those young ladies, who desire to get ahead in life, tend to be more receptive to someone else’s encouragement.  They discover that they can’t learn everything from their peers.

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed how more and more young people don’t want to do better, nor do they appreciate any information from anyone other than themselves.  Face Book & Twitter are a few prime examples where young people are exploiting themselves over the internet.  Posting explicit pictures, using profanity, and exposing themselves to the unfavorable views of prospective employers are not ways to communicate.  Also it’s not the way to find a suitable mate.  Instead of taking Godly wisdom, young folks disrespect their elders and wonder why you don’t offer any further acknowledgements.

The Word of God states: Titus 2 New International Version (NIV)
“1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. ² Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

³ Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. ⁴ Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, ⁵ to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

Not again! – The Boston Marathon Bombing

When you think that you’re safe, things have been comfortable, nothing has happened around your area, and you don’t have to worry about terrorism; all hell breaks loose once again.  Today the Boston Marathon was disrupted by two bombings.

Some years back, the NY World Trade Center was destroyed and many people flocked to a church in order to find some sort of consolation.  Expect that people will again be coming to seek answers and understanding.  Be ready to welcome them and introduce (or reintroduce) them to the love of Jesus Christ.

Thank You…For What?

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov. 3:6).

“Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”

This was the phrase that was previously used to invite the Holy Ghost (Spirit) into a person’s life.  We’ve learned that the Holy Spirit is a precious gift.  He comes willingly to those who request Him.  But let’s get back to Jesus.  “Thank you Jesus.”

One morning—very early as it was so customary for the Lord to visit—God whispered to me, “Why do you thank me?”  “What are you giving thanks for?”

Why do we sometimes unconsciously repeat, “Thank you Jesus,” and that’s the end of the sentence.  Yes, I too was guilty of saying, “Thank you Jesus.”  Just a blurb of what I thought was an announcement of appreciation.  But what was I being thankful for?

Sure we may say “Thank you” to a person when they hand us something, but the statement is usually said face-to-face and usually right after the kindness is rendered.  Example: someone gives you a gift in a pretty package and you say, “Thank you.” Later you can write them a little card and express how the gift and their act of kindness really blessed you.

God made it a little clearer to me.  It would be just as if you were going to your friends, a relative, or a complete stranger and you say, “Thank you Lou, or Thank you Aunt Tillie, or Thank you dad,” and you keep repeating “Thank you _______ (name),” and you say nothing else.  Eventually, that person is going to say: “What?”  “What did I do?”  “Why are you thanking me?”

It’s the same thing with God.  “Thank you Jesus.”  Sooner or later He’ll want you to tell Him what you’re thankful for.  “Thank you Jesus for getting me up this morning.”  “Thank you Jesus for showing my child favor before the court judge.”  “Thank you Jesus for sending your angels to protect me from that fatal car crash.”  “Thank you Holy Ghost for your peace that you’ve given me during this waiting period in my life.”  It’s okay to say “Thank you Jesus,” sometimes, yet He’d like to hear why you are thanking Him… (Where Did That Come From?)

Super Bowl commercials 2013 VOTE!

 The Baltimore Ravens earned their second trip to Disneyland with their (34 – 31) win against the San Francisco 49ers (who already won the prestigious Vince Lombardi Trophy 5 times), in the 47^th 2013 Super Bowl.  But that’s not what this story is all about.  Nor is it about how the lights went out for the second time, in a stadium located in Louisiana.

Being Critical

Critique, don’t criticize.  When weighing a situation, the questions that we should ask ourselves should be, “Why is the good, good?  How do I make the better even better?  Where is Jesus in this particular situation?  Do we need to add a little more Jesus?”

Why don’t we tell people, “I love the Jesus in you”?  Now, if Jesus isn’t there, I’ll love the person anyway, and hope that He will be manifested in their life very soon.  “Let’s find Jesus in others, and, hopefully, let others see that He’s showing up in our lives too.”

God Does Not Argue

We may try to justify or find fault with what God wants us to do when we read the Bible. And sometimes we just refuse to accept His commands and we do our own thing.

*God Commands — We Obey*

When God says to repeat a “Word of Knowledge” or a “Word of Wisdom” to someone, we should comply. If the person doesn’t want to accept the Word, then our work as the messenger has been done. We, as the messengers, completed the work on our end; it’s up to the receiver and God to do the rest, but, if we don’t deliver, there is always someone else who will do what God asks.

“Homo vs. Hetero?” - No Question

Is it a wonder that you don’t see two dogs of the same sex trying to get it on together, or any animal trying to have sex with their same sex? God did not intend for same sexes to come together in an unnatural relationship. The intercourse between two males or two females will never reproduce an offspring. Then why does man, who is higher than the animals, become gender confused with homosexuality and heterosexuality.

Man, who has intelligence that is superior to the animal species, has gender-disorder problems. Man, the same creature that God made a little lower than the angels (Ps. 8:4-5) has a problem. God didn’t put confusion of gender in this world, so who did? God knew what He created when He created man and woman: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Gen. 1:27).
