Fear Not!

In my many travels, I have come across people who have never gone outside of the area in which they were born.  Some say it’s because of a lack of transportation.  Some have been quoted to say that other areas are too far.  The price of gas is too much.  They don’t have the time.  And there are those who never thought about leaving their local stomping-grounds because of FEAR.

Have you ever been outside of where you live?  Do you think it’s too far, or have you not gone on the other side of your town because of FEAR?  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of other cultures.  Fear of not being accepted.  Fear of crossing bridges.  Fear of going by yourself.  Fear of getting lost (there are now GPS’s available, Google, and they still make paper maps).

Recently my Husband & I had the pleasure of going to Savannah, Georgia, which is about a two and a half hour drive from where we live.  I don’t know why we never visited the area before, but now he sometimes works around Savannah.  He thought that I would like it and I did.  There is a lot of history and things to do there just as there are probably things to do in your town.  But you have to get outside of your comfort zone and visit other places of interest.

We have just celebrated the proposed time of Jesus’ birth when the angel of the Lord came to Mary and said …”fear not”.  There are eight times those words “fear not” are mentioned in the book of Luke in the New Testament.  God has not given us ‘the Spirit’ of FEAR, but He gave us the Spirit of Power, the Spirit of Love and the Spirit of Self-discipline.  So, Fear Not!

Getting Godly Answers

Are we talking with God on a continual basis or just when we want something?

Proverbs 3:5-6Good News Translation (GNT)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.

It’s great to quote scriptures and do some things that the Bible tells us to do, but after we’ve done the Word, why not talk with Him.  It’s great to check to see if we’re on track, as we begin to get loving counsel from Holy Spirit.  He’s the third personage of the Blessed Trinity.  He’s our friend, comforter and confidant.

Don’t leave home without Him and when you talk with Him, be quick to hear & slow to speak and ready to take action.  Don’t just talk to God, but speak with Him.

It Takes a Village – Get Involved!

"It Takes a Village to Raise a Child”; no, that phrase did not originate from a book written by Hillary Rodham Clinton, it came from an old African proverb and it’s a true statement

There was a time when teachers were the authority figure during the day while a child was in school.  Today things are different because of the integrity of some teachers & that parents believe everything that their children have to say before asking the adult what happened.  Some parents will even cuss-an-educator-out for saying something to that parent’s child.  Oh, and long time ago on the way home from school, the child might get in trouble with the neighbor up the street before having to confront their own parents.  That was an example of a real “village” which helped to raise the children in the neighborhood.

Our world is a village and crimes of injustice are children of that village.  Crimes of injustice are happening all over this world that we live in today.  As Bishop George Davis of Impact Church pointed out during a recent sermon, people should get involved and not just turn a deaf-ear when crimes of maltreatment occur.  We should take a stand to help another person who may be subject to bullying, human trafficking, or other forms of abuse.

Many times, we just don’t want to get involved.  It may be because there is a fear of retaliation, a feeling of being inadequate to make a difference, or not having the time to do anything right then and there.  Sure you don’t want to put yourself or your family in jeopardy, but there are many ways to report crimes, so you’re not placed in danger.

It’s always a good thing to check with Holy Spirit as your back-up advocate in times of confrontations.  Holy Spirit will let you know when to get involved and when to be safe and report an incident to the proper authorities.

If you don’t have a village (there may not be a mother, father, grandmother, aunts or uncles) within your family, then borrow or adopt a village.  Villages can be established through “Small Groups or Cell Groups” from church, or people you can trust like the mature woman up the street.

Always be aware of your surroundings.  Pay attention to the signs of abuse.  Get involved and be that “village” who will step up to help someone in need.

Not again! – The Boston Marathon Bombing

AmericaBlog.com "The Boston Marathon"
When you think that you’re safe, things have been comfortable, nothing has happened around your area, and you don’t have to worry about terrorism; all hell breaks loose once again.  Today the Boston Marathon was disrupted by two bombings.

Some years back, the NY World Trade Center was destroyed and many people flocked to a church in order to find some sort of consolation.  Expect that people will again be coming to seek answers and understanding.  Be ready to welcome them and introduce (or reintroduce) them to the love of Jesus Christ.

Thank You…For What?

“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Prov. 3:6).
“Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”  “Thank you Jesus.”

This was the phrase that was previously used to invite the Holy Ghost (Spirit) into a person’s life.  We’ve learned that the Holy Spirit is a precious gift.  He comes willingly to those who request Him.  But let’s get back to Jesus.  “Thank you Jesus.”

One morning—very early as it was so customary for the Lord to visit—God whispered to me, “Why do you thank me?”  “What are you giving thanks for?”

Why do we sometimes unconsciously repeat, “Thank you Jesus,” and that’s the end of the sentence.  Yes, I too was guilty of saying, “Thank you Jesus.”  Just a blurb of what I thought was an announcement of appreciation.  But what was I being thankful for?

Sure we may say “Thank you” to a person when they hand us something, but the statement is usually said face-to-face and usually right after the kindness is rendered.  Example: someone gives you a gift in a pretty package and you say, “Thank you.” Later you can write them a little card and express how the gift and their act of kindness really blessed you.

God made it a little clearer to me.  It would be just as if you were going to your friends, a relative, or a complete stranger and you say, “Thank you Lou, or Thank you Aunt Tillie, or Thank you dad,” and you keep repeating “Thank you _______ (name),” and you say nothing else.  Eventually, that person is going to say: “What?”  “What did I do?”  “Why are you thanking me?”

It’s the same thing with God.  “Thank you Jesus.”  Sooner or later He’ll want you to tell Him what you’re thankful for.  “Thank you Jesus for getting me up this morning.”  “Thank you Jesus for showing my child favor before the court judge.”  “Thank you Jesus for sending your angels to protect me from that fatal car crash.”  “Thank you Holy Ghost for your peace that you’ve given me during this waiting period in my life.”  It’s okay to say “Thank you Jesus,” sometimes, yet He’d like to hear why you are thanking Him… (Where Did That Come From?)
