June and Summer Months at White Harvest Farms

“My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.” —
Desmond Tutu in honor of Juneteenth.

The White Harvest Farms (through Clara White Mission) are preparing for the summer harvest of watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, eggplant and peppers. Days are getting longer and longer as they approach the summer solstice on June 20th. What fun plans do you have for the longest day of the year?

Construction has officially begun on the Indoor Farmer's Market and Training Center here at the farm. They’re excited to invite you to our new space soon!

The White Harvest Farms are prepping for a WHF cool down in the months of July and August. June marks our last month of Saturday volunteering, workshops and classes on the farm until September. Our summer cool down hours will be MWF 8 a.m. noon for volunteering and classes in the months of July and August.

Visit their market again this month on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They have their produce and products from The Herban Life - honey, fresh eggs and fresh honey lemonade from October through June. In season for harvest at the farm this month are cucumbers, basil, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, onions, kale, dill and parsley. They are also excited to share a chamomile, calendula and lemon balm tea blend that we grew, dehydrated and packaged at White Harvest.

On Saturday, June 26th, the WHF Community Council is hosting another creek cleanup thanks to the Groundworks Jax mobile cleanup van! White Harvest Farms is geared up to host these events every month. They are happy to say they are making progress on the waterway with better water flow and less trash. But with all the rain coming this month, they are expecting more debris to wash down the creek. Come help and be prepared with rain boots, waders and clothes you don't mind getting wet or dirty! Click HERE for more information.

Become a member of the White Harvest Farms community by volunteering, attending a workshop or joining their White Harvest Farms Community Council. Their volunteering and workshop opportunities are friendly for groups of all ages. Volunteer On The Farm: Knowledgeable farm staff lead volunteers in daily tasks associated with organic, no-till farming. Volunteer hours on the farm are Tuesday and Friday from 8 am to 2 pm and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. October - June. In July & August their new volunteer days and hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m. to noon. They understand if you cannot stay the entire shift but they do ask that you arrive by 8 a.m.

WHF Community Council is excited to have more community support of White Harvest Farms. The council meets once a month via zoom and organizes events like the Creek Clean Up and Community Canvasing which distributed 400 fliers to the neighborhoods surrounding the farm. The Council is also working on children's curriculum for more meaningful field trips on the farm. Their next meeting is June 24th at 6 p.m. To join-in email them HERE!

He has also starred in many cult films such as Crimewave (1985), Maniac Cop (1988), Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989), and Bubba Ho-Tep (2002).

In television, Campbell has starred inThe Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. (1993–94) and Jack of All Trades (2000), and a recurring role as Autolycus, King of Thieves, in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess (1995–99). He can also be seen as the role of the father in The Escort (2015).

The Beatles will be in JAX this month

The Florida Theatre is pleased to announce “Classic Albums Live: The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 8 p.m.

Classic Albums Live takes classic albums and recreates them live, on stage - note for note, cut for cut. Founded in 2003 by Craig Martin, Classic Albums Live has become the ultimate destination for music lovers wanting to hear the greatest albums performed live without all the gimmickry and cheesy impersonations. Relying only on the music, using what Martin refers to as 'the world's best musicians,' Classic Albums Live has defined itself as a mainstay in Performing Arts Centers across North America.

Martin shares some behind-the-scenes insight into Classic Albums Live’s performance of The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: “Sgt. Pepper is 50 years old! For many of us, we don’t know a world without it. Pepper was the album that defined The Beatles as being in it for the long game. It was as though everyone suddenly came to the realization that The Beatles were a big part of the fabric of the 20th century.”

He went on to say, “We all know the hits off the album - “When I’m Sixty-Four,” “A Day in the Life” and “With a Little Help From my Friends.” But upon continual listen - it’s the deep tracks that become more and more compelling. George Harrison’s “Within Without You” was like adding a new spice to your diet, “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!” sounds like you’re taking a trip and “She’s Leaving Home” brought old and young together and prepared them for change.”

Craig concludes: “Classic Albums Live will be honoring the Sgt. Pepper album with a ‘note for note - cut for cut’ performance featuring 16 of the world’s best musicians. Every detail of the album will be performed with precision and grace, from the sitars and orchestra to the guitars and kazoos, Classic Albums Live will deliver a performance that brings 50 years of Beatles’ excellence to thousands of people who grew up alongside the Sgt. Pepper masterpiece.”

This will be a socially-distanced event with health and safety protocols in place. Patrons can visit floridatheatre.com/home/breaking-news for the most up to date information on The Florida Theatre’s safety protocols and general updates, Additionally, ticket purchasers will be notified by email of specific safety requirements prior to the event.

The Alhambra adds another week for ‘The Music Man’

Judging by the prompt sellout of its current production of the classic, “The Music Man”, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining announced today it is extending the run for an additional week. The show will now close on June 13, 2021.

About the Show: In 1957, the show became a hit on Broadway, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and running for 1,375 performances. The cast album won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and spent 245 weeks on the Billboard charts. The show's success led to several revivals, including a long-running 2000 Broadway revival, a popular 1962 film adaptation and a 2003 television adaptation.

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a marching band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.

About the Meal: Executive Chef DeJuan Roy creates a new menu for every Alhambra show, usually borrowing influences from the script to shape his selections and recipes. Thanks to Chef Roy's culinary magic, the Alhambra is now known as much for its exceptional dining as for its theatrical productions. The menu for "The Music Man" features:

First Course (Choice of One) River City Salad - Chopped iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, cheddar cheese, croutons, Brown Derby Old Fashioned French Dressing *GF* without croutons; OR, Billiards Beef & Barley Soup.

Second Course
(Choice of One) Chicken Divan - chicken thighs with creamy broccoli & cheddar cheese sauce, sweet peas, mushrooms, white rice; OR, Slow Roasted Pork Brisket with honey barbecue glaze, mac n' cheese, collard greens *GF* without mac n' cheese; OR, Parmesan Crusted Salmon with pesto cream sauce, rice pilaf, roasted asparagus; OR, Cauliflower Wellington - Cauliflower with red pepper sauce, roasted Parmesan tomatoes, mushroom Duxelles wrapped in puff pastry.

Third Course (Choice of One) Honeybun Cake with candied pecans, caramel; OR, Key Lime Crème Brûlée.
