Called by God or Man?

Are we walking a tightrope?  Are we giving God or man the glory?  “God gave me the Gift of Discernment;” or “Sister Sookie told me that she got a Word from God that I was supposed to be a pastor of a mega church around the corner from …”  Man-made or God ordained?  Are we fulfilling the prophesy that is within us? That prophesy which God has established, or are we trying to live up to someone else’s prophesy[1] to us?  Make sure you’re hearing from God before you go stepping out into a calling (pastor, teacher, prophet, etc.) or a ministry.

Who Do You Trust?
Did you know that the devil doesn’t want you or me in part?  He’s aiming for 100%.  Some people believe: “The devil doesn’t want me.  If I leave him alone, then he’ll leave me alone.”  Not true!  He wants 100% of all he can get, and then he’ll throw you to the side until he’s ready to use you again for his evil deeds.  Yes, if you allow him to, the devil does desire to use you.
God also wants us to share with Him an everlasting happiness in heaven and an abundant life while here on earth.  But God, too, wants 100% of you.  He’s waiting to give you the best.  Now my question to you is: “Who are you going to trust?”

Mothers & Fathers of the church - yesterday and today - same wisdom

Our church is getting ready for a “Corporate Fast” and part of the fast is to Stop Complaining”.  This post is meant to be a guide and not a hindrance to young people
Face Book is one place that people usually give advice, share files, spread love & they also complain.  It is the obligation of the Mothers & Fathers of the church (mature Christian women & men) to give sound counsel to those who are younger.  Elders are to aid young people, who haven’t been through or experienced certain situations, with helpful knowledge.  It is so important that those mature persons advise with Godly wisdom.

In a course that I teach entitled, “The Confident Woman”, I try to give young women help in appearances, seeking employment, communication, interactions, seeking companionship and general “how to’s”.  Most of the time those young ladies, who desire to get ahead in life, tend to be more receptive to someone else’s encouragement.  They discover that they can’t learn everything from their peers.

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed how more and more young people don’t want to do better, nor do they appreciate any information from anyone other than themselves.  Face Book & Twitter are a few prime examples where young people are exploiting themselves over the internet.  Posting explicit pictures, using profanity, and exposing themselves to the unfavorable views of prospective employers are not ways to communicate.  Also it’s not the way to find a suitable mate.  Instead of taking Godly wisdom, young folks disrespect their elders and wonder why you don’t offer any further acknowledgements.

The Word of God states: Titus 2 New International Version (NIV)
“1 You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.”
By counseling others, we are only doing what God has commanded us to do, with the wisdom and guidance of Holy Spirit.  We can’t make people take heed, but we are obliged to try.  OBTW – please don’t call me “Mother”.  I only have two children.  Yours in Christ, Ms. “V”     #NotComplaining

“There Was Bending, Yet Never Breakage” Pt. II

Ever hear the expression, “It takes money to make money”?  Here are a few more tips on starting your own business:

1.      Don’t be afraid to step out of the boat.  Take a chance, but don’t put you and your family at risk.  Make sure that you can afford to do without some things, but don’t sacrifice the necessities of life – food, a roof over your head, health, family time (sure a new business takes time to develop, but it shouldn’t be at your family’s expense), and time with the things of God.

2.      Advertise, advertise, and advertise some more.  People have to know the who, what, when, where, why, and the how of your business.  Advertise first and then allow word of mouth to help push the advertisement.  If someone sees your ‘ad’ then they may pass the word on to someone else.  Keep your company’s name out there.  Remember, there is always someone out there who hasn’t heard about you.

3.      Save some funds to offset the lean times.  Be able to pay your bills, even if there’s no income for a while.

4.      Be in agreement with your spouse about all business decisions.  If you can’t come to a mutual agreement, then come to a compromise.

5.      Above all else, make sure that you pay off your debts to others and know when it may be time to seek something else.  To quote a song sung by Kenny Rogers, You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away, and know when to run…[1]

What’s On Sale?

Young people today are wearing just about anything.  Sometimes it’s too tight, much too short, too revealing (leaving nothing to the imagination) or it’s dropping off their butt to reveal underwear that your grandpa wouldn’t wear.  Are our young people (and some old folks who should know better) hanging themselves out like an old “For Sale” sign that is tattered, worn, and torn?  Why aren’t they encouraged to be the apple of God’s eye?  Would He be proud to call them His children?  Here’s a new slogan:  What Would Jesus Wear? (WWJW?)

In God’s eyes, we Christians are gems.  We are people who should be looked up to as examples of Christ.  We are not elevating the physical man but that spiritual likeness of Christ that is nestled inside of us.  As heirs to the throne, and children of the King, we must carry ourselves as such and walk with our heads held high, with Great Expectations,[1] and not settle for less than our Father would expect from us.

Allegiance

It has been brought to my attention how some Christians are stuck in the place (i.e., your Grand Mama’s church) where they were first saved, water baptized, and filled with the precious Holy Spirit, and they are not receiving any spiritual nourishment from that church; they need to get out and go where they can be fed.  Some people may even feel that a particular chair or pew belongs solely to them because of their money contributions.  I have even heard some people say that the place where you were water baptized is the church that you joined for life and to whom you should give your faithfulness.

When we are baptized—in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—that is to whom we pledge our lives and allegiances.  Remember that Baptism is an outward sign of an inward change.  The old man is gone, and we are now new creations in Christ Jesus “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Cor. 5:17).

We should hold dear those memories of where we were first reinstated with Christ, yet our loyalty should travel with us as we move.  Yes, we should have a home church, but that church should be located where we are currently living, where we are being spiritually fed, and where our tithes (money and time) are given.

If God places it upon your heart to give an offering (that financial gift that is given over our tithes) somewhere else, then by all means do that; but pay your allegiance (tithes) to the place where you are growing in God’s Word.  If that church is not where you are physically located, then, in order to receive spiritual nourishment, you need to get to the place where the church that nourishes you is located.
