“I Don’t Work That Way”

One day as I was asking the Lord to help me through a particular situation, I waited and waited for an answer.  Numerous other things would go through my mind as I waited.  I was reading an article about a famous star and listening to some easy-listening tunes on the radio (did you know that God will answer you anywhere and at anytime and even when there is music in the room?).  I continued to ask Him about what I should do.  I rocked in my office chair and gazed outside of my window.  As I stared at the building across the street or looked at the sky through the telephone wires, the solution to my dilemma became clear to me.  I had thought all morning, analyzing the situation while the Lord continually listened to me.  Well, after a few hours, I had the solution.  “Lord, why didn’t you give me the solution earlier?  Why didn’t you just pop the idea into my brain?” I wanted to know.  His reply was, as He has told me many times before, “Because, I don’t work like that.”  We have to be continually in communication with God and sometimes just wait.  The answer is always coming.

'Get Up Offa Your Thang' & Feel Better

Get Up Offa That Thang…” and feel better.  James Brown knew what he was talking about years ago, even before exercise was as popular as it is today.  Dancing & roller-skating to music was a very good form of moving the joints and draining some excess water from our bodies through sweat.  You should be able to remember those “house parties”.

This post is written to continually encourage us to get up and do a little something to better our lives.  We need to establish a little ‘Accountability’ and a lot of ‘Commitment’.  ‘We are Winners’ & we can make a positive change for the good.

At the tender age of 63, I am not as limber as I use to be.  Yes, I get a ‘snap, crackle & pop’ in my joints as I exercise & it ain’t Rice Krispies.  It takes much effort to do a ‘plank’ and hold it for 25 seconds, or 25 abdominal crunches, or hold a ‘hollow-man’ for 1 minute; but it’s possible.  You may experience some pain.  I’m not going to tell you that “labor” doesn’t hurt; it does, but the agony does subside during delivery.  I’ve now been renewing my physical man for 13 weeks and I still get sore sometimes.

Let it be known that I have to ‘wrap’ and ‘brace’ some areas of my body occasionally.  You may need to reinforce an ankle, elbow, knee or wrist; but do what needs to be done in order to get through your workout.  I try to do a half-hour, five days a week.  If you miss a few days because of appointments – then get back into the gym, start walking again or turn on your video ASAP.

My Ankle Surgery in 2010 hasn’t stopped me, nor Back Surgery in 2012, or Knees supposedly to be arthritic, nonetheless, I will not quit!  If you need further encouragement – tune in to “America Ninja Warrior”.  Some of the competitors have overcome some challenging setbacks.

If you worry about flatulence occurring at the gym – don’t fret; that’s one of the reasons why they play music and have the fans running.  Just try not to consume dairy or any products that give you gas before you head out.  If you’re at home – use you abs. to help release the gas gently.  Your body is performing naturally.

Whatever you do — Don’t Give Up! And pray while you P.U.S.H.  The enemy will try everything to make you quit, including weight gain at the beginning.  Remember, you’re making muscle and that is sometimes heavier than the fat that is falling off.  Don’t forget to “Eat Wisely”, and incorporate cardio along with strength-training.  You have plenty of friends on social networks who are making a conscious effort to live longer & enjoy life.

If you don’t have a personal trainer like my daughter Tonya Poller, than go to Face Book and “Like” Psalm 139 Woman – Fearfully & Wonderfully Made Divas of Fitness or Faith and Fitness or Strive to Be Fit.

Desire The Best From God

Have you noticed that some people talk about preachers making money off their congregation and are living ‘high off the hog’ while they themselves live from paycheck to paycheck?  Have you noticed that some pastors teach about prosperity and “the good life”?  How dare they tell us how to live an enjoyable life here on this earth?

Well, they are telling us how we can have the best that God desires for His people.  He will make our way prosperous in order for us to be successful.  It’s our inheritance to desire the best things that are available on this earth: good health, promotion, wealth, fame, companionship and much more.  There’s nothing wrong with getting a better car, better job, good friends, nice clothes – and for most of this we need more money.

Can you see a similarity?  God has allowed us to share a part in building His kingdom, and increasing the number of laborers to proclaim the Word of God.  I’ve had a car that took “Band-Aids” to help hold it together until a better ‘used’ car could be obtained.  Sure, it took time and a better job in order to get better things.  There are times that I still find bargains at ‘resale’ shops and I’ve never turned up my nose to second-hand items.  Life is all about being “good stewards” of what God gives to us.

So don’t covet, don’t go overboard by being greedy; but do expect better.  Don’t settle for a mediocre, ‘just-getting-by’ lifestyle.  If you own a “Hooptie”, start saving and begin to profess a better car.  If you want nicer things; start acting now.  Whatever you wantask God for it and #TBR.
Don't settle for a "Hooptie" unless it's a ride that's been "Pimped"

“Listen & Do”

It had been six years since I’d had a vacation, and finally, I had the opportunity to go on one.  I forgot how beautiful Arizona and southern New Mexico could be.  Everywhere you look there are mountains in the background.  At night the sky cascades with millions of lights, bright and clear to the eye.  My bus ride was a wonderful way to appreciate the beauty that God has given us, and it also afforded some time to catch up on much-needed rest.

I asked the Lord if He would grant me some time alone and not have me witness (strike up a conversation) with anyone on the trip to Phoenix.  God does have a sense of humor.  He sat me a couple of seats away from some guy reading, “Divine Revelation of Hell?”  I immediately wanted to inquire about his reading material, but I did ask to be to myself.  I prayed that God would send another laborer.  I was tired, but I started feeling a little guilty also.  I witness at work, at the gym, and at church; why couldn’t I share my faith now?  Besides, I had homework to catch up on (I was able to take a couple of college courses), and besides, I was on a mini vacation.  So, I kept to myself.

Bus terminals are sometimes cold and unfriendly places.  There are many different classes of people taking buses, different from those who hang around airports, yet we’re all God’s children—His creations.  He desires all to come to repentance and eventually to “come home.”  Put it like this—if you are not saved and filled with the Holy Ghost…
