The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is thrilled to announce the receipt of
two significant gifts from national garden organizations, The Garden
Conservancy and The Garden Club of America. These gifts, totaling $30,000, will
help fund the reconstruction of the historic Cummer Gardens, listed in the
National Register of Historic Places, which were severely damaged during
Hurricane Irma.
The Cummer Gardens sustained extensive damage from Hurricane Irma and the
subsequent unprecedented levels of storm surge flooding. The lower tier of all
three formal garden spaces remained submerged for approximately 24 hours in as
much as four feet of water. This resulted in the uprooting of plants,
contamination of outdoor sculptures and fountains with corrosive contaminants,
detached railings along the river, broken lighting, pervasive salinization of
the soil, large amounts of debris, and significant impact to much of the
physical infrastructure, including drainage, electric, fencing, and the well
that services the landscape. The Museum has engaged WLA Studios of Athens, Ga.,
as a consultant to guide the reconstruction of these garden spaces.
The Garden Conservancy, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to saving
and sharing outstanding American gardens for the education and inspiration of
the public, has hosted an annual Open Day in Jacksonville in partnership with
the Museum for five years. The Open Days
program opens the gates to local private gardens, fueling the public’s passion
for gardens and gardening through self-guided tours and special programs
presented by experts in many fields. Building
on its tradition of helping significant public gardens manage natural and
manmade challenges, the Garden Conservancy presented the Museum a $20,000
donation to help fund the garden reconstruction effort.
Since 1999, Late Bloomers Garden Club, a member of The Garden Club of America,
has been an important partner in maintaining the Cummer Gardens through
financial and volunteer support. Resolving to help ensure recovery of the
historic gardens after the unprecedented flooding, the Late Bloomers club
submitted a request to The Garden Club of America’s Restoration Initiative, a
fund supporting member clubs directly involved in public landscape restoration
and conservation projects in communities devastated by natural disaster. The resulting $10,000 grant will fund new
plants and work toward reconstruction of the Italian Garden, with the goal of
honoring the historic character of the site while making improvements that will
prepare it to withstand future storms.
Your continued financial support will always be appreciated and feel free to
donate HERE.

Do you have a child
who has shown interest in the theatre, is talented in singing, acting or dance? Then there is a place where they can go when
school lets out for the summer. No
singing, dancing or acting experience necessary - just a willingness to have
fun and a curiosity about what happens on stage and behind the curtain. “Camp Broadway®”, presented by the FSCJ Artist Series, returns
to Jacksonville for its 18th year from Monday, June 11 – Friday, June 15, 2018
from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the FSCJ Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts on
Florida State College at Jacksonville’s South Campus.
Camp Broadway® introduces young people to the world of
life on-stage and behind the scenes. Campers work with Broadway directors,
choreographers, and musical directors to receive training in acting, scene
study, improvisation, music theory, solo and ensemble singing, movement, and
dance. This five-day performing
arts program offers each camper the opportunity to expand his or her creative
talents, build self-esteem, learn the art of collaboration, and gain a fuller
respect and understanding of musical theatre.
Camp Broadway® has been proclaimed the “Camp of Dreams” for starry-eyed
kids who are just beginning to dream of being on Broadway. It is a self-contained summer workshop that
travels around the country bringing Broadway to kids. The 40 hours of
camp include singing, dancing and master classes for kids ages 10 to 17.
Applications are still being accepted
for Camp Broadway®, and tuition is $575 per camper and includes
daily lunch, snacks and two t-shirts. Spaces are limited and Camp
Broadway® fills up quickly, so register your camper today! Visit Camp Broadway Jax or contact Amanda Faye at (904) 357- 8934
or email
for more details.
With authentic Broadway instructors teaching dance routines and musical numbers
at the same break-neck speed as a real Broadway show, Camp Broadway® is
a fun-filled week of activities designed to teach kids about the serious
business of live theater. One activity is our annual Salute to Singin'
and Dancin' Kids™ (a special luncheon where campers meet and hear about the
various theater jobs from real theater professionals).
This year, campers will perform either “Singin’ in the Rain” or “42nd Street”
depending on their age group. The performance will take place on Friday, June
15, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. at the conclusion of camp.
Camp Broadway® -The National Tour is offered once a year in
Jacksonville. Founded in 1995, Camp Broadway® is Broadway's
Original Summer Program for theatre-loving kids. Since then, Camp
Broadway LLC has worked at the intersection of entertainment and education to
become the industry leader in theatre arts youth programming, special events
and educational publishing. The company serves the Broadway industry by
being an authorized channel for families, schools and social organizations who

learning. Proclaimed “The Camp of Dreams” by Live Magazine, Camp Broadway

Artist Series, returns to Jacksonville’s Times-Union Center for a limited
engagement of six performances. Broadway's record-breaking 1997 Tony
Award-Winning musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast
Recording. Produced by Barry and Fran Weissler, CHICAGO
is the smash winner of six Tony Awards including - Best Musical Revival. CHICAGO is back in town and it’s pure entertainment! With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob
Fosse, music by John Kander with lyrics by Fred
Ebb, CHICAGO is now the #1 longest-running American musical
in Broadway history –
and it still shows no sign of ever slowing down!
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the
story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who maliciously murders
her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid
conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma
Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious
crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as
easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.
The national tour is directed by David Hyslop and choreographed by David
Bushman. Walter
Bobbie is the
director of the original New York Production and Ann Reinking was
the original choreographer in the style of Bob Fosse. CHICAGO features
set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long,
lighting design by Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer. The production also features orchestrations by Ralph
Burns, supervising music direction by Rob Fisher.

In a golf town that just can’t seem to get enough of the action, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining opens a
comedy new to its iconic stage, Ken Ludwig’s “The Fox on the Fairway.” Opening
week coincides with the “Players
Championship”, the PGA TOUR’s premier event just minutes down the road in
Ponte Vedra Beach (FL), adding to the area’s thirst for all things golf.
About
“A Fox on the Fairway”: Bingham, president of the Quail Valley Country
Club, is in a difficult position when he discovers the golfer he chose to represent
his club in the city championship has switched sides, having been recruited by
his counterpart and opponent. The huge
bet Bingham had foolishly wagered is now likely to be lost. He recruits the
skillful Justin and then discovers his newly-hired hand is in love with Louise,
the waitress at the club, causing his ringer much distraction. When Justin
learns that Louise has lost the engagement ring he gave her he comes unglued.
The game resumes the next day, but Justin loses the lead, and, upset, takes an
unfortunate swing, breaking his arm. To further complicate the matter for
Bingham, his wife catches him much too close to Pamela, the Club vice-president.
Comedy ensues as Bingham tries to find a replacement for Justin to win the
game, win the wager, and get his life in order.
A comic romp written by the Tony Award-winning author of “Lend Me a Tenor,” “A Fox

The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is pleased to announce its upcoming
exhibition, Storytelling: French Art from the Horvitz Collection, which will be
on view May 25 through July 29. This presentation combines two exhibitions from
one of the world’s finest collections of French art - Imaging Text: Drawings
for French Book Illustration and Seventeenth and Eighteenth-Century French
Paintings. The 80 works of art created between the 16th and 19th centuries,
range from mythological and biblical studies to more playful imagery, and vary
in style, genre, and period. Captured in crisp and swift pen strokes, finely
modulated chalk, or brilliant colors, these captivating compositions were
produced by some of the most prominent artists of their time, such as Charles
le Brun (1619 - 1690), Charles-Nicolas Cochin, the Younger (1715 - 1790), and
Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732 - 1806).
“It is a great opportunity for the Cummer
Museum to present such an exceptional collection of French art. Printed
illustrations played a major role in 18th-century French publishing, allowing
many artists to gain entry into elite artistic, literary, and social worlds,”
says Associate Curator Nelda Damiano. “In
addition, the selection of paintings speaks to the rigorous tradition of the
French Salon and the Academy. We are excited to share with our visitors
examples of both these major trends.”
Renowned for its breadth and quality, the Horvitz collection has been the focus
of many national and international exhibitions and scholarly publications, and
it now contains nearly 2,000 drawings, paintings, and sculptures. The exhibition is curated by Alvin L. Clark,
Jr., Curator, The Horvitz Collection and The J.E. Horvitz Consultative Curator,
Department of Drawings, Division of European and American Art, Harvard Art
Museums/Fogg. An illustrated catalogue
of the drawings will be available.
Storytelling will be accompanied by a schedule of engaging programs, including
a Member & Community Opening Party on Thursday, May 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information on the exhibition and
related programming, Click HERE.

The Ritz Theatre and Museum is proud to present a new series entitled “Artists You Should Know.” This on-going series will highlight rising
artists in a variety of musical genres including blues, jazz, and even country,
exposing Jacksonville music lovers to artists they’ll be hearing about for
years to come! Artists You Should
Know will also introduce new and diverse audiences to the LaVilla
neighborhood and Ritz Theatre and Museum, who might not have yet had the
opportunity to experience these downtown Jacksonville cultural gems firsthand. Beginning May 12th, the inaugural “Artists
You Should Know” series starts with its Summer Country Edition
featuring four of today’s hottest newcomers:
CODY WEBB – Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 8 p.m.
Singer, songwriter, musician, and touring artist
Cody Webb has played hundreds of dates across the East Coast, Midwest and
beyond, earning thousands of fans with his expressive tenor and deft guitar
work. Recently relocated to Nashville from his native South Carolina, he's
finishing work on his debut EP and has assembled a team of top music business
pros for his first push onto the national scene. Led by songs including the
propulsive "More Than A Little" and plaintive "My My My
Girl," Cody's new EP reveals something distinctive yet undeniably at home
in today's country landscape.
SANDRA LYNN – Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 8 p.m.
A California girl with a Nashville heart, Sandra Lynn is one of country
music’s sweetest rising voices. After releasing a pair of upbeat singles —
“Afterparty” and “Bar Hoppin’” — in 2015, Lynn returns with the playful, flirty
“Hey California,” which she co-wrote with producer Dave Brainard (Brandy
Clark). “I feel like this song is such a strong identity piece for me,” she
says. “It represents some of my earliest influences, like the Beach Boys and
Sheryl Crow, and captures my love for country music and my roots as a
California girl.”
CRAIG WAYNE BOYD – Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 8 p.m.
Craig Wayne Boyd has already drawn a large and loyal following as thousands
thrilled to his victory in Season 7 of The Voice. But with release of
his new album, Top Shelf, Boyd goes way beyond that platform to a place
that even his fans might not have anticipated. Confident delivery, upbeat
personality, deep country soul, and easy charisma - this is all still there.
From the buoyant “Stuck In My Head”
to the dirty sound of “We Sweat,”
Boyd presents himself as an artist of complex dimension, never satisfied with
repeating himself, but always true to his roots.
STEPHANIE QUAYLE – Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 8 p.m.
Stephanie Quayle offers the genre a fresh sound, relatable storylines and
an invigorating presence that is unmatched in today’s music scene with her new
album Love the Way You See Me featuring the current single “Selfish.” Her debut single, “Drinking with Dolly,” and follow up “Winnebago,” hit Top 50 on the Billbaord
Indicator radio chart with over 1 Million strems as well. Quayle made her
